That Toronto trade is terrible. Why are we adding Brisson and Roy to what’s already good with Petro and LT(who’s not being moved. Literally can’t get a cheaper goalie)

Brisson for Robertson
Two future 2nds for a current 1st (used to grab Laughton)
Pietrangelo and Thompson for Marner retained, Roy added to make money work.
Petruzelli added to shore up Vegas goaltending (Leafs have 3 very good young goalie prospects already so they can spare Petruzelli)

I guess maybe you can scratch one of Vegas 2nds and take out Brisson if that makes you feel like it's a more fair trade. I'd still do that if I'm a Leafs fan.

Two future 2nds won't get you a current 1st, why overpay for Laughton anyways? Don't think he's much different than Roy.

Better to keep LT, since it would allow them more flexibility. Pietrangelo + LT + Roy probably won't be what the Leafs are looking for Marner especially with retention. Pietrangelo is just too old. I think Theodore + would make more sense, but the Leafs aren't retaining on Marner without getting a haul. Maybe something like Theodore + Karlsson for Marner + Liljegren + a 5th.

Flyers would take that.

I can see Leafs wanting Piet more than Theo, mainly because of him being right handed. Vegas gets out of the possible crap years of that deal. I'll be honest, I thought of Karlsson instead of Roy, but I feel like losing Stephenson and Marchesault already would make Vegas hesitate to lose another original Golden Knight.

I think if you tweak it to maybe Pietrangelo, Karlsson, prospect for Marner (no retention) + Liljegren+ low pick or Petruzelli, then maybe that works out.
I'd still like for the Leafs to somehow find a way to grab Thompson too in that deal. Even if it means adding their 1st for like a 4th in return or something.

Yeah, that's fair I won't say that the Leafs wouldn't be interested in Pietrangelo, but I think they would need something for the future. I do think Pietrangelo might be more reluctant to move, he seems like he's a guy that wants stability for him and his family, so he might nix any trades. He does have ties in Toronto, but I don't think he really even considered signing there when he was an FA (not that they were able to offer him as much as Vegas). I wouldn't be surprised though if Theodore put the Leafs on his NT list either but he's lost his PP time to Hanifin so maybe he would be willing to move on. Reason why I think Karlsson might as well be added is because they might need to move him the following year anyways to extend Marner, Theodore/keep Pietrangelo, and fill out the rest of their roster.

I don't think it's essential that the Leafs add a goalie here since they could look at other trade options or just sign someone in free agency, and to me it seems like an inconvenience for VG. Both him and Hill do tend to struggle with staying healthy, but he's so cheap that I think for them adding someone in season if needed would be the best option.
