What's the need for the Dumba-Gardiner swap? Personally I would rather have Gardiner over Dumba.

Dumba to me has a better chance of being a legit #2 Dman playing beside Rielly and gives our top pair a right-left balance. Also sheds salary... and I openly admit I have a bad dislike for Gardiner so in my mind it works on multiple fronts lol!! but atleast he goes back to his home state...

The Leafs are considerably weaker by trading current good NHLers for futures. Leafs would finish out of the playoffs for sure.
Dumba and Maatta for Gardiner and Marincin might improve the Leafs a bit defence. But to trade good NHlers Bozak, JVR and depth Fehr, Smith for first rounder what's the point?

The cap space and the opportunity to let the kids play is what is needed.. the young kids ARE the depth and the sparingly used Smith and the aging Fehr mean that Kapanen nor Leivo nor Soshnikov etc. play more games in the NHL which is exactly where they need to be.

Leivo, Soshnikov, Rychel are wingers. Fehr is the fifth line centre. Smith is an AHLer and an absolutely emergency call up centre. So it's not like Fehr or Smith are taking NHL time from the wingers you suggested.
Unless there are injuries to other wingers, unlikely Leivo, Soshnikov or Rychel will see NHL ice with the Leafs. Kapanen yes.
