I don't actually think either team does this trade but I bet these 2 teams try to make a trade based around Marner and Seth Jones. Leafs probably need someone like Nazar back but Chicago probably doesn't want to trade him.

Nope. Why would the Leafs trade Marner for cap space, in order to get back just as much cap that is way way worse lol Jones is one of the leagues worst contracts. I would trade Marner for Jones 1 for 1 if CHI ate 50% and paid a third team to eat another 25%. Maybe.

In this trade, they aren't trading him for cap space. You can't get it all. Marner is an elite player but he's a distressed asset, you aren't going to get cap space and a super amazing return.

I don't like this trade either despite me posting it. I am in the camp that believes what Rachel Doerrie said on the Staff and Graph podcast that Treliving wants a big D and Marner might be willing to go to Chicago, Nashville, or Vegas. I don't want them to trade for Seth Jones, but I don't think its impossible.

I'm not interested as a Chicago fan. I don't like the idea of trading for Marner and having to give him a massive contract, and I definitely don't like the idea of trading picks and guys like Nazar who look like they will be important parts of the future for him. It would be the Jones deal all over again, but at least Jones plays a position that the Hawks are weak at and he'll have less term once the new core hits their stride.

The Leafs dont need an amazing return lol Thats the point. They dont need any return. They only need to NOT TAKE MONEY BACK. If the Leafs trade Marner for nothing but picks. They win. If the Leafs trade Marner for a VALUE player. Someone who plays better than their contract dollars. They win. Marner is a cap dump. Nothing more. Marner is in no way a distressed asset. He is a 100 point RW in his prime. And the team moving him wants nothing from you except to NOT take back bad money and find a town he is willing to waive for. If Im Toronto and the deal is with CHI, which I highly doubt because why would Marner want to go there an resign? But anyways Im saying send me Jason Dickinson and Conner Murphy with some retention and he is all yours. Leafs dont need great players back. Just good value assets.
