Hawks will have no problem getting to the cap floor. They're not taking on that contract without a 1st+ attached. Edmonton is better off just buying him out.

It’s not lol. That’s obvious Twitter bait ripped from Reddit comments.

Campbell dump
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SGB88</b></div><div>I think you're selling them a Murphy Ceci swap when all they want to buy is a Campbell and Mrazik swap.
I think if I'm Chicago I'm charging at least 1st to take Campbell, honestly, I don't know if that's enough, so add a 2nd on top. Mrazek has had a hot start, but his value is probably virtually zero at 3.8m, call him a 4th and 3rd with retention since you've got leverage.
So I'd say Campbell a 1st, 2nd and 4th for Mrazek 100% or change the 4th to a 3rd for 50% retention. The first would 100% be protected, and you could say 2nd becomes a 1st if they make it to the Stanley Cup, maybe, also top 10 protected.</div></div>
I can’t speak for other Hawks fans, but if I’m taking on Campbell for 3+ years at that cap hit, I’d need multiple 1sts. They can be protected, but I just don’t think it’s worth it otherwise.

The Hawks let Kubalik walk for free less than two years ago. I’m not sure why they’d want to give up a pick for him all of a sudden.

Like it or not, the Hawks don’t have any use for either of those guys. They don’t want to take on more cap or crowd the roster for free. They’re certainly not going to downgrade a pick to do so. You might be able to get an asset from another team for those guys, but this doesn’t make any sense for the Hawks.

Brodie gives some D stability
Not an Athanasiou fan but he is a GTA boy so why not…I vote it works for both teams. Love Murphy for the Leafs and they can flip the pick.
<strong>Have faith Hawks fans, that pick may not be top 10 if you get Willy Styles flanking Bedard. Certainly it won’t be top 3 or even 5…</strong></div></div>
That’s the problem, we want another too 3 pick. The Hawks don’t have all their foundational pieces in place yet. They’re not ready to stop tanking, let alone ready to compete for anything. We’d just end up in no man’s land.
As for the deal itself, Nylander doesn’t fit the timeline of the Hawks at all. He’ll be 30 by the time the Hawks are ready to compete for anything. They have Hall to ride shotgun with Bedard anyways. AA is meh, but he played well with Reichel down the stretch, I’d rather hang on to him for now. Murphy is a better fit than Brodie. Younger, RD with term to help mentor the plethora of LD the Hawks have coming up.

Chicago need offense to play with Bedard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PeterGriffin</b></div><div>Bedard is a generational talent of Laine, unreal shot, great hands. They would compliment each other so good. What is it that they want from there young dmen, a mobile point producing dman at 22 years of age? i must be stupid but isnt that what every team is lookin for? (Kevin Korchinski is a mobile point producing dman so might as well trade him too) Bean is mid af.</div></div>
Again, Laine is a good player and would be a good fit with Bedard, but they already have Hall as a vet and have some really good young forwards coming up over the next few years. He's just not as much of a need as Jones.
Boqvist is certainly still an interesting young player with some potential. Unfortunately, he's not particularly big, he's not good defensively, and he's had consistent injury issues throughout his career. The Hawks seem to value high-end skating and size in their young Dmen. Now they're certainly willing to overlook player flaws if the talent is undeniable in other areas, but I don't think that's the case with Boqvist. He's certainly shown that he can produce offense, but I don't think he's shown enough consistency and high end talent in that area to make up for his shortcomings in other areas. He still could, but it's not a bet I'm willing to make if I'm Kyle Davidson. Korchinski is a similar player in many respects, but I'd personally be pretty disappointed if he's in the same place Boqvist is in a few years.

The Hawks want to have vets that insulate their young players, but I can't see them having interest in this. The common denominator with all the vets they've brought in thus far is that they're all on short term deals. They don't have a need for Petry, but I think they would take him if they got a decent pick out of it. I don't think they'd be willing to take on Rust given that he has 5 years left on his deal, unless they had a deal in place to flip him. But if that were the case, the Pens probably just flip him to third team and cut out the middle man.

Chicago need offense to play with Bedard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PeterGriffin</b></div><div>You have got to be kidding me right? if this actually went down Columbus GM is getting fired over this trade</div></div>
Maybe so, but that doesn't mean that it's any good for Chicago. Boqvist doesn't fit the mold of what the Hawks seem to want from their young Dmen. Bean was hurt all last year, and his analytics were underwhelming when he did play. Not to say he's a bad player, I think if he gets healthy and plays in a good system he's a good player. But the Hawks have young D that need NHL time and he blocks them. Laine is undoubtedly a great player, but he's missed 20+ games each of the last two years. Plus, if it comes down to Laine vs Jones, Jones is going to be much more beneficial for the Hawks going forward as a mentor for their young players. The Hawks have competent vets at forward to lineup with Bedard in Hall, AA, etc. On D, the only competent vet they have outside Jones is Murphy. It just really makes no sense at all for them now or in the future.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PantsOffnJacket</b></div><div>When did Jones become good again? Must have missed it...as far as I know he's disappeared since getting his big money.</div></div>

More Veteran Presence For Bedard
Not sure why the Hawks would be interested in this. They have insulation for Bedard with the guys they’ve already picked up in the off-season. Murphy’s a good middle pair guy who fills a need for a few years and insulates all the LD prospects they have. I think Murphy is a fair bit more valuable and a mid round pick doesn’t make up for that.

The Hawks aren’t interested in taking on more cap for longer term unless they’re getting paid to do so. They’re not interested in being good next year, so getting a better player doesn’t appeal to them.

Toronto Becomes Cap Compliant and Replenishes Their 2nd Round
The Hawks aren’t in the position to be trading draft capital for a guy who’s going to want big money next year and will be in his 30s by the time the Hawks are ready to compete again. If the Hawks can flip Nylander for a profit at the deadline, then sure. But I don’t see any world where he makes sense for the Hawks long-term.
