If I'm a GM and pay my 2C 3.75M, I wouldn't turn around an pay my 3C 6.5M doesn't make sense. Who plays defense on the top pairing? Zadorov is getting a big paycheck. Arvidsson is made of glass.

They'll have ~14 million in cap after signing all RFA's, with only 3 forward roster spots to fill (2 after Tavares)
Not to mention the slew of good ELC players available through their AHL team
They could easily fit Tavares under the cap, check for yourself. They could also get a little retention from elsewhere
