You aren't getting Wright for a rental. Also how does it make any sense at all to move Marner and then blow that cap on Reinhart?

Agreed. Seattle might be well served to just sign Reinhart and keep Wright. I don't know what his relationship with Botterill (ACG-Kraken) was like in their time together in Buffalo, but there is some familiarity there. (??)

I highly doubt Reinhart hits the market to begin with. He spent years playing for a team in and out of a rebuild, he's finally having success somewhere and probably isn't going to give that up for a couple 1-2M a year (especially since Florida can offer him the 8th year too). I would say it's much more likely that Montour hits UFA

Oh, agreed. Was just "exaggerating" the point to stress this Leafs ACGM baffling idea of signing Reinhart after freeing all that cap space dealing Marner. Point being if Reinhart were available, Seattle could well go that route rather that help TML with a solid prospect AND a viable replacement for Marner.

Marner won't waive his NMC for a place he doesn't want to sign for. Obviously. Saying literally anything else is blatant self justification to fuel anyone's desire to see the leafs burn. Tkachuk gave Calgary a few teams he'd want to sign with and Florida gave the best package to make it happen. If Marner is traded it will be the same situation. Any argument that contradicts that is nonsense. Also Wright isn't worth Marner. Not even close.

Reinhart is going to instantly be a bad contract wherever he signs. He's a 30 goal scorer sure, but this past season was a complete aberration. He scored on every 4th shot. It'll never happen again. Anyone paying him big bucks for a lucky season will regret it.

Except Marner is twice the player Reinhart is and 5 times the player Wright is.

You bet! Hey, I didn't come up with this silly ACGM, just commenting. Sure hope Toronto counts their blessing and just keeps Marner around he's so great. But if not, I don't think Treliving will do as well this time around. (re: Tkachuk as you mentioned above) Different player, different situation . . . ie. player type, reputation, contract status, contract dollars, etc. Added to that, it seems no one does the Leafs any favors, and Leafs (media) shoots themselves in the foot when they make this guy the whipping boy every year. Not as strong a position, IMO. But I'm down with the optimism!

Tkachuk is the closest comparable to go off of. Marner is similar age, is a Selke finalist. Whatever fans say, Marner is extremely highly regarded within the NHL. If he's available, he will bring in a major return.
