No, we're REALLY not interested in Mitch Marner, because that would only be short-term gratification at the expense of long-term progress.

This offer is the perfect example: trading for Marner while sending his center back the other way. Unless you want to take a package of mid-level talent like Vatrano and Strome and LaCombe, there isn't a deal to be made here because we're happy with, and only interested in adding to, our developing core of Zegras, Gauthier, Carlsson, McTavish, Terry, Minyukov, Zellweger and Dostal, and we're not trading 2024's third overall or our ticket to the Hagens sweeps.

Toronto fans should stop trying to shoehorn Marner into a team that can't afford him (Los Angeles) or force him on a team that doesn't have the expendable assets to pay for him (Anaheim).

Don't know how many times we have to send this message north if the border.

McTavish is unavailable, full stop, end of discussion, no ifs, ands, or buts about it, don't ask for him, it'll never happen.

Marner doesn't have that kind of trade value even if he'd waive for Anaheim.

Marners already overpaid for what he provides, his next contract will absolutely be a problem unless he takes a steep discount, and at that point he may as well stay in Toronto. He's shown he's not the guy to build around, he's a perimeter support player being payed like he's a franchise cornerstone.
