Value spread across too many pieces, especially if the Blues aren't gaining any cap space.

He’s a pending UFA in his final year, St Louis isn’t getting a high end piece back for him. I think this value is comparable to the Lindholm trade, probably a bit higher with the 2nd round pick and D-Petey has a higher floor than Brzustewicz

Except Lindholm was a TDL trade where everyone knew he was for sale. Buch is not on the block. Big difference. Plus, you've deferred the 1st and the not needed or wanted Mikheyev is signed for two more seasons. For his AAV, he's half a cap dump. Long story short, this offer does not address Blues needs and is more quantity than quality, which again does not suit the Blues.

People need to forget about comps, they rarely actually apply.

Not true, never been true. GM valuation process is built around comps.

If available, they almost always apply

Different teams have different needs so comps can be a start to a negotiation then it's about the GMs trying to turn it into a win-win for both sides.

Do they ALWAYS apply? No, but mostly.

In this instance, Blues would rather quality over quantity. And preferably on defense since our defensive prospect pool is lacking. We would rather a projected mid first and A defensive prospect than a late first and 3 B- prospects in varying positions

No, they do not. Where you guys get such ideas, I'll never know.
