Description
Detroit has so many bad contracts that it makes me sick. I can't talk too much about cap issues because I'm a hawks fan, but the only player in my opinion who doesn't play the value of his contract is Seabrook, and he's been important to the team. Back to Detroit, you have guys like Abdelkader making just over 4 million for the next 6 YEARS!!! Then you've got Helm, Nielsen, and Ericsson, who make a TON of money, with Nielsen being the only one who played good. There really isn't anything that I wanted to do trade wise on the bad contracts, because I know that nobody wants them for that much money. Don't get me wrong, the players are great hockey players, but they are way overpaid. I moved Green to EDM with and retained 2 million (which should be fine for one more year cap wise), and got the 2nd round pick and Ty Rattie. Rattle is kind of a wild card because he has a crazy upside and has shown glimpses of great talent with STL but just hasn't been consisntent. He could play a handful of games in preseason for Detroit and earn a roster spot, but for now I'd have him as depth. Riley Sheahan only scored 2 goals last year, both of which in the last game. Granted that goals aren't everything, that is still unacceptable. A change in scenery might be all he needs, and what better place then the Penguins. In return, Detroit gets a young physical player in Wilson and a 4th.

Why would PIT do that though? Wilson is the better 2 way forward and currently has better production and potential ... at a better rate and term. Sheahan isn't worth $2m ... He would be in the minors if not in DET on that contract. He's a cap dump for DET ... he's 25. You should be offering more than you get. See the Eric Fehr trade with TOR. I wouldn't take Sheahan with out $1m in retention though.

I'd counter offer a 5th for Sheahan with $1m in retention.

PIT needs a 3C, and Sheahan fits that. He's also more experienced and has put up better points totals than Wilson.

Honestly, I'm not sure the Wings would even want Wilson, so I'd agree with the OP that it's Sheahan for Wilson + 4th, or Sheahan straight up for a 3rd.

You said it yourself, he's 25. Also, he has potential and can put up points, he just had a down year in Detroit and needs a change.

25 and potential makes him a piece to rebuild around ... Moving on from him makes him someone you're giving up on ... Cap dump. I've had bad days at work. I've NEVER had an off year. What's the reason for his off year?
