Description
STEP 1: Trade Tanev for a return of only picks to clear some cap space.

STEP 2: Let Horvat in on the plan and convince him to sign a lower salary one-year deal and cash in the following year after the Sedins' deals expire.

STEP 3: Piss off the Oilers. Sign Draisaitl to an offer sheet that is definitely a higher cap hit than EDM wants and make them choose what to do. Chiarelli's already said he'd match any offer, so it's in the Canucks' best interests to make the Oilers cap future more uncomfortable. And on the off chance the Oilers are tempted to take the picks, VAN acquires a stud forward to round out the top line with Horvat and Boeser.

    I doubt they'd be top 3 picks after adding Draisaitl to the lineup. Still not a playoff team yet though.

    Not according to the info in this link, but it could be wrong. Anyway, the idea would be to bump the cap hit up to the higher limit of the bracket where the Canucks would only have to give up the two 1sts, 2nd and a 3rd.
