Great idea, seems like OTT has a bunch of over-priced 2nd line guys. CLB could use the depth to compete and protect PLD/SM. Plus Murray needs the ice time to be productive. And if he goes down, Carlsson is ready to fill in.

Would never happen. Trade isn't at all good enough for Ottawa, and I'm not sure if it's because Hoffman is being underrated by you, or you just don't know the position Ottawa is in. So here goes.

Hoffman was the 9th highest scoring LW since he joined the league, and is the best forward for the Sens. When he's not it's because he's tied with Turris or Stone at the time. He's their top LW, their best goal scorer and arguably their best contract besides Karlsson that doesn't have to be renewed this year.

Sens don't need an aging LHD on an expiring contract, a 20 point bottom 6er, or a late 1st. That would mean trading from a position of weakness and getting two pieces back where they are already clogged up. They have 6 NHL level LHD (Claesson, Phaneuf, Oduya, Chabot, Borowiecki, Harpur, Englund is close even), a whole ton of bottom 6ers, and only one top 6 LW (since MacArthur is not guaranteed). Those are not good enough pieces, and even if you think they are, they make absolutely zero sense for Ottawa. Maybe a team that needs them would make that move. Ottawa has zero need.

And overpriced 2nd liners? Ottawa overpays one forward, which is Ryan. They pay Turris and Stone 3.5 million each, Hoffman just over 5, and Brassard 5 million. Sounds a lot like the way Columbus pays their top 6.

I agree this does not make much sense for Ottawa. Putting a package together that would work for Ottawa probably would not be worth it for Columbus.
