Looking at what a possible re-tool could look like. Patches on Anaheim would be downright scary. Let me know what you guys think of these moves.

Those trades are all in montreals favor. The other teams would never accept them

Personally I wouldn't want to take on Fowler's new contract, especially if it meant losing your best forward.

Pacioretty is a top 5 left winger in the league. His value probably exceeds that of Fowler's, and given the depth of Anaheim on the back end i can see them wanting to add his firepower at the expense of a very good, mobile puck moving defense man. Anaheim is also gonna need cap flexibility moving forward, and with Fowler's new contract kicking in + whatever Ritchie will ask for after next year they may find themselves in a predicament where they will be unable to sign one of either Manson or Montour. Schlemko and Patches effectively provide an upgrade to their roster for the next 2 years (their cup window) and more flexibility moving forward. De La Rose and the 4th are sweetners to offset the added value of Ritchie.

Detroit needs to shed salary, and trading a player like Nyquist offers up more play time for players like Larkin and Athanasiou to grab a spot in the top 6 without "throwing in the towel" for their move to a new arena. Scoring a prospect like McCarron who could immediately play on their roster is a good return for a move to shed salary, Fucale could receive more starts in the Red Wings system as he's been buried in the Habs goalie depth.

Davidson for that cheap could find his way into Chicago's top 6, which would be a smart grab for Chicago.

Shaw was acquired for two 2nd round picks last year. He offers NJD a feisty NHL capable 3rd line player to infuse in along with the kids they'll be putting on their roster. Can also play center which Jersey will need after the news of Zajac's surgery where his recovery will last into the midpoint of the season.
