Description

The roster includes Brassard after he comes back from injury. After the trade, Ottawa's cap space is super limited for the upcoming huge contracts of Mark Stone and Kyle Turris. Depending on the performance of Brass, Nuge, and Pageau, I see one of them being shipped out at the end of the season.

Additional Details:

Brassard is getting shoulder surgery and is unlikely to start the season. It'll take even longer for him to be playing at 100%. This leaves a big hole in center depth that rests on the performance of rookie Colin White. Ottawa can't afford to get to a bad start in the season.

Ceci, Cody

Additional Details:

Edmonton's defence is pretty weak on the right-hand side, with only Larsson capable of playing top 4 minutes. Ceci is 23 years old, right handed and capable of playing 23+ minutes a night if needed. Edmonton needs to shed salary and get more cap with McDavid's and Draisaitl's new contracts taking up so much space.

Not now, only because RNH is signed for 3 more season after the next one and EDM likely won't have room to resign Ceci. A sign and trade on Ceci would have made sense before Russell was signed.

Matt Benning's numbers are far superior to Ceci's, so I don't think it's fair to say that "only Larsson is capable" of handling top-4 minutes. Not that Ceci wouldn't be of interest to the Oilers - they may like him as a 3RD - but not at the cost of RNH, especially if they feel they won't have room to sign Ceci after this season.

This would really mess up resigning Turris, Stone, Claesson without making massive cap cutting trades
