Leafs Depth Chart Sept 16 2017

Created by: Billius
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 31, 2017

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These aren't line combos or prospect rankings. I've ranked each player according to their listed first position, based on who would be most ready to fill a spot if their was an injury or trade above them at that position.

It's interesting that the Leafs are light on RW depth and have lots of depth on LW.

Some rankings are just guesses right now. I'd be interested in opinions. Pre-season should help clear some of them up.

I pretty much agree with everything, although marincin might be a tad better than dermott only because of experience.

Hey Bill, so you can now imagine what's going on at camp. Keep an eye on the 3 Swedes. . . Rosen spectacular again today and Dermott paired with Liljegren so maybe down the chart a bit. You're right about RW depth, although it's high end depth, so maybe overload top 6. Depth on the left side beyond top 5 more questionable. . . Some likely would fit better as trade fodder. One of the biggest roster questions has to be if Babcock values what Martin brings over more speed and skill?

Will be interesting to see who wins that 3rd pairing left D job. I would like to see Dermott or Borgman get a shot.

Right Doug, that's why I put a date on this depth chart. I believe Borgman, Rosen, Dermott, and a few forwards have a chance to rise in the rankings before the first puck drop. But right now they have to prove it to Babcock on the ice.

So would I, let's see how they perform in pre-season.

I'd like you to take a second look att Borgman. He played for my team HV71 last year and he was... well not perfect but not far from it. It was his first year in the Swedish Elite League and not only did he win rookie of the year and the gold, he also made his debute in the national team and would most likely have played in the World championship if it wasn't for Hedman, OEL, Edler and Brodin all coming home to play.

It's a decent chance that he makes the team from start and takes the left side of the third pairing.

You're absolutely on point. Borgman has been very impressive so far. Rosen and Dermott are the other contenders for that third pair spot.
