Description
I added retained salary because if I remember correctly players cap hits lower as the season goes on? Correct me if I'm wrong. Idk if my value is on or off. I think the Vegas trade is closer to value than the Vancouver trade. I just know that the Canucks were going to move him for demers straight up so I figured if they were out of the playoffs they'd be willing to listen to offers. Would like to hear thoughts!

You are correct. Lets imagine 7 months in season, player makes 7m, a year. Traded near deadline, 2months left in season, the original team has 5m of his cap hit, and his team 2m.
Unless Gudbranson rights himself, Bruins might be happier with McQuaid. Might be a too steep to pay for Neal, but hey that might be the price if there are competing teams for Neal services.

I could see the Neal deal, but not sure why BOS does the VAN deal, nor am I sure that VAN does the deal.

Does the cap hit itself actually change or does the salary that he is paid out change? Honest question

Both. Boston would only owe the balance of his contract and his cap hit is prorated. I believe it works out to be about half or a little less at the deadline. For example the Sedin twins are $7 million a piece, but at the deadline they should drop down to roughly $3.5 million each and you could potential get the pair for $7 million combined.

Its weird, when I go look at deadline deals last season. The cap hit itself didnt adjust for players like Stafford and Burrows only the salary adjusted

Pasta. At the deadline deals, I don't think Cap Friendly truly reflects the "trading" of cap.
