Well, Arizona doesn't have to set OEL free. Maybe he gets traded at some time before he becomes a UFA. The being said, I really don't understand the trade. Arizona has no use for JVR but the Leafs do this season. So I don't understand why the Leafs would load up with OEL, then trade a 30 goal scorer. And I could argue why would the Leafs trade a RHD Carrick, a position of need in the trade.
