Includes Late Season, Trade Deadline ('17-18) and Draft Deals

Created by: netminder71
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2017
Published: Oct. 23, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Need to Turn Over this Roster, Especially the Defense:
- Eller will prob cost too much to re-up and he hasn't totally been great for the Caps. Yields a prospect and a couple picks.
- Orpik (w/ retained salary) to Ducks who lose a couple veteran d-men after this year, for an AHL d-man the Caps are familiar with and a middle-round pick.
- Wilson who may never really pan out as a top-6 forward for a couple 2nd rounders (same cost as it was to acq. Eller last year).
- John Carlson and a late pick for good NHL ready youngsters and a high pick. Because if Shatty cost a 1st and Sanford, Carlson could draw similar (or more from the right team).
- Siegenthaler and a 2nd for rights to Trouba (who essentially replaces Carlson). Re-signs for under $6M annually (since Carlson wants north of that and is a mistake machine). Would probably have to surrender Grubi in that also as WPG needs a better goalie option than Mason.
- AHL forward that McPhee loved, and an earlier pick for developing d-man that probably won't get much of a chance in Vegas due to their depth.
- Bowey and Barber (two prospects) for a prospect and picks. Please get rid of Bowey, I have never been high on him and he's showing he's not NHL ready so far. Barber has struggled to get anywhere on the Caps forward depth chart.

I think you overestimated the trade values of Eller, Carlson. Underestimated the value of Trouba. Why would Ducks want Orpik without at least 50% retention.

I have done so due to boredom really...and because 99.9% of any of our fan-sided ideas are lopsided trades. Hence my armchair status and not having an NHL GM job. And I may be dreaming.

Just like palhal said, trades don't come by that easily, although negociating rights for RFAs aren't as pricey as a player with a signed contract.

Maybe trade some offense like Brokovsky to get a good Lefty defense alongside trouba.

Also, why get Aberg if you don't put him in the line up?
