Idk why you think you can exclude LHughes and Nemec and get away with it. This is a top 10, arguably top 5 goalie in the league, in his prime (only 26), signed for 3 years after this one at 5mil (below good starter level, already a steal and will only look better as the cap rises). Like Holtz+2023 1st wouldn’t cut it imo. Nemec+Holtz would probably be enough and frankly, the Devils could justify that. You already have Hamilton and Marino on the right side, and presumably L. Hughes and Siegenthaler on the left for your long term top 4, plus enough depth to fill out the bottom pair even if Graves and Severson walk (or bring in UFA replacements, 3rd pair guys aren’t hard to find). I wouldn’t trade L. Hughes obviously, but the Devils D is strong enough that they could trade Nemec+Holtz for Demko and be a stronger team for it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McGruff</b></div><div>Do you think BOS got to 24 points just tonight miraculously w/ BM & CM joining the roster?
Their injuries were earlier & guess what - the rest of the team won in their absence!!
Forbert plays the heavy minutes, that's my point. Tanev for Norris - said no one ever...
CAL issues were not D; only 3-1 loss w/ empty-netter.
Prob - was up-front, had chances couldn't finish (looked kinda AHL-lite).
Sounds like it's golf in April-snows of Cal-Gar-ree then - FORE!!!</div></div>
Do you have a point here? Tanev has gotten Norris votes actually lol, while Forbort has bounced around and is generally found on the 3rd pair. Calgary had him for a bit. He’s not good. And yeah, obviously they can’t score, they’re missing their most skilled player, and have no depth or chemistry… like I said. Not being atrocious defensively tonight doesn’t mean that hasn’t been a problem in the past, and quite frankly I don’t really care about Boston? It’s impressive that they were winning without Marchand and McAvoy, but a hot goalie fixes a lot of damage, and they didn’t completely overhaul their top 6 this summer so I’m not really seeing the comparison.

Flames - have winning experience & depth up and down the line-up (injury or not)...</div></div>
Swayman is their worse goalie this year and it’s not close, I’m not sure I’d even take Forbort over Michael Stone (mentioning him in the same breath as Tanev is insulting tbh), and both Marchand and McAvoy were back tonight, so I’m not sure what your point is here? Flames do not have forward depth anymore, there are 4 regulars in the lineup that don’t deserve to be playing every night (Lucic, Rooney, Lewis, Ritchie). They also are having some systems issues, they can’t transition, they can’t do anything in the neutral zone, and they can’t enter the offensive zone and stay there with possession. Will they figure it out? Maybe. But not having 3 of their top 7 D isn’t helping, they had a lot of depth there, but 3 injuries at the same position is too many.

No Tanev for the last few games (at least 3, maybe more I can’t remember), no Huberdeau for the last two games, no Kylington all year, Stone hurt as well, no chemistry on the top line, a big hole in the top 9 hurting our depth. The problems are pretty easy to identify. Hopefully chemistry figures itself out with more reps, but losing our shutdown pair from last year is hard when defense was supposed to be our strength, and now we’re running Zadorov out there for 25+ mins per night and an AHL calibre 3rd pair (literally, Gilbert-DeSimone is straight out of the AHL lol, they were like our #10 and #11 at the start of the year).

Don’t think Demko’s irl value has shifted much lol. Nobody is gonna take like 10 subpar games over a couple years of near elite play. His fantasy value is through the floor, sure. If the Canucks trade him though, someone would give them a haul. If I’m the Leafs, I’d give up 2023 1st + Niemela + Knies for him in a heartbeat, that’s the guy that can cover some of your weaknesses and steal you games when Matthews and co. aren’t stealing you games by outscoring people. Demko’s a top 7 goalie on individual skill imo, maybe top 5.

Trading Demko would get them the most pieces, but it would probably be a mistake to trade him. Especially because they don’t have a RD to sell to Buffalo for one of their goalie prospects lol (one of the few teams with an expendable, good young goalie, and they arguably could get rid of 2 of them). I woulda traded Miller this summer, not sure you can dump him now. BoHo should get a 1st+prospect at least. Kuzmenko is probably worth keeping around for his chemistry with Petey. Boeser can be dealt for whatever you can get, not sure what his value is these days honestly.

You’re really gonna pretend Larkin is 25%+ better than Seider lol? Trade analyzers always suck. If this is an ESPN tool, it’s even worse than the Yahoo tool, which regularly pumps out excellent recommendations like dropping Jack Hughes for Mikael Granlund. At best they ignore league cats/context. At worst, following their advice loses you the league every year. Give it a rest, if you really had a problem with my trade, you should’ve spoken up when you had the opportunity, and it’s really childish to get upset when multiple other people voted to veto the trade. Vetoes happen sometimes. You renegotiate and move on. You don’t rage quit, ruin the league for everyone else, and make more work for the commissioner.

forwards aren’t overrated lol, they’ve been great. our issue is a fair bit on the defense (specifically the right side, which is horrendous with zub out), but mostly on the coaching. dj’s systems suck. whoever our pp coach is has to go as well, there’s no excuse for a squad with this much firepower to have a bad PP. they don’t even run it through debrincat, which is inexplicable, and they refuse to move chabot off of it when brannstrom is not only better at running a pp, but doing that would make chabot more effective at even strength. dj also keeps putting zaitsev in the lineup (0-7 with him playing now) and when he’s in the lineup, he gets played like a top pair guy cuz dj can’t help himself. he also does stupid things like put brassard at 2C and put brassard out as the extra attacker

I can’t find the replay now, but on one replay they showed on the broadcast it looked like he hit markstrom with his left leg first, he didn’t even have the decency to fake it enough to look like he suddenly forgot how to make a tight turn and clip him with the outside dragging toe, and he had his whole right leg between markstrom’s legs, there was no “clipping” there. Not to mention, he apparently has a habit of running goalies because he did it less than a week ago too lol. It was 100% the definition of a slew-foot. Pelech flew awfully high for a big man, and if he wasn’t expecting a shove then he shouldn’t be in the NHL because that happens after every whistle. And Cizikas is supposed to go literally anywhere except into the back of Markstrom lol, he didn’t even try to avoid him. Markstrom didn’t sell anything, that’s what happens when you get slew-footed. Aren’t you the guy that always complains about Subban doing them lol? Dirty play by a loser player. If the refs are gonna let them play, there’s some things they’ve still gotta call, and they let even those slide. Sure the high stick shoulda called, but the hold/trip on Kadri and the slew-foot on Markstrom have to be called too, especially right in front of the ref, and the Andersson shove was weak, especially for OT, shoulda been both or neither.

Pelech weighs 210lbs. He gets shoved like that countless times a game, every game, because a scrum happens after almost every whistle if even one of the teams is actually trying. It shouldn’t have sent him airborne. Andersson is not the hulk lol. I could accept it if they took Pelech for embellishment too, but they obviously didn’t. It’s especially terrible because they set the precedent of not calling anything after watching Cizikas slew foot Markstrom and simply ignoring it. Like, that’s literally the second most obvious penalty you could ever hope to see (after puck over the glass), and they didn’t call it, but then call a weak shove in OT? Give me a break. things that are not a penalty:
- dragging down a guy on a partial break because he had you beat clean
- slew footing a goalie from behind
things that are a penalty:
- barely touching noted diver adam pelech in overtime
unbelievably horrible officiating. can’t believe the flames have lost back to back games in OT due to terrible penalty calls. and our near-league worst penalty differential only gets worse
