Avs really need to go for D depth this trade deadline yes, and preferably a RD. As the situation is right now he will most likely be a starter in the playoffs with Byram and Murray out... (and will likely be out when the playoff starts).

Actually hasn't been that bad. Oh boy I was worried going into this season, but he has been kind of solid in a sheltered 3rd line role. Top 4 Ds make up for all creativity and play drive while he stands in the way of opponents and focus on avoiding mistakes. But everytime he is paired up with Macdermid I'm nervous and a goal against feels imminent.

The downgrade of taking on Brassard and Risto does not weigh up for what Giroux is contributing. No from avs.

Getting Makar Giroux Kadri and other pieces to contend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I hate to break it to you, but Sanderson isn't some, in the future player, he could start NHL level 1st pair now. If they made this move at TDL, he'd be your 1st pairing guy next year.
And Byram never carried teams in the way Sanderson has. Hell he and MB carried the US Olympic team this year. When Sanderson went down, it was very noticeable.</div></div>
You are not breaking anything for me, all I and Avs care about are how to build the best possible team to win the cup this year. And this trade does not contribute to that. Its just not a good fit right now, even if you are right about him being a replacement for Makar next year because we need Makar this year.
The argument about Byram was not that he is as good as Sanderson, it is about the uncertainty of players that are not yet a star player in your team. And to be fair, who the hell cares about the olympics this year, doesn't say anything. (Pleeeeeeeease note that I know nothing about Sanderson and I am not saying that he is not a good player, I'm sure you're right about him but I feel bad for him being in sens organization then)

Good point. And the need for D depth (especially RD) is probably higher than forward depth.

Getting Makar Giroux Kadri and other pieces to contend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>I was actually expecting much worse because people usually trade the moon for star players.
I agree the Avs shouldn't make this trade. It's not like they have poor depth and are lacking in quality players. They don't need to trade one of their stars to fix something that is not a need/problem
Makar is today's Erik Karlsson, you don't trade these guys in their prime.
That being said, Norris is 22 y/o 2-way center who might just be a 30-40 goals scorer every season (he scored 30 goals in his last 60 games) and Sanderson is going to be Slavin 2.0
That first round pick is also very valuable so overall this package has immense value. Oh and didn't even mention recent 1st round picks JBD and Boucher who might not become big stars but solid NHL players.
This package is worth a ridiculous amount of "first round picks" so yeah Ottawa also wouldn't do that lol (particularly considering what Eichel was traded for)
Edit : And yeah, the word "hope" here doesn't paint the picture very well.</div></div>
Thank you for understanding my point, yes "hope" maybe came off as a bit too negative but was just trying to emphasize the point of my argument of why the trade is a bad match right now.

Getting Makar Giroux Kadri and other pieces to contend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I love how you knock the guy for being NCAA level when Makar had basically the same kind of stats when he played in the NCAA.
Fact is Sanderson is a beast on the blue line. Hell team USA ability to actually win games tanked when he went down after his game in the Olympics where he basically drove team USA to beat canada with MB.
He'll be an instant 1st liner and a star at the NHL level. The whole college hockey to NHL star is frankly irrelevant. He's been great at every level he's played at, against any level of competition he's played at.
Making trades off of point totals on some website probably isn't the smartest thing to do.</div></div>
I don't knock at him for being NCAA level. I say that the trade won't happen because you don't trade a current top 3D during a cup window for a future maybe top 1-20D (+some other things that they don't need right now). It's just not the trade that avalanche would agree to in their phase. Even if the expected value is higher they just will not trade a current star for future right now. And with younger non-established players you never know what happens between now and when they are stars. For example look at Byram a very talented hockey player that was primed to be a star, but hes had a few concussions and is likely out for the rest of the season and for that reason cannot fulfill his potential/value (of course hope he will be well and can still realize his potential, just an example).

Way to much talent going the other way here.</div></div>
Of course I have no insight in his talent other than what I can see on eliteprospect, but in my mind a ppg college player is considered a good prospect aka hope. You just can't translate college hockey to him being a clear NHL star player. With Norris being the only established nhl player I just don't see that avs were ever to accept a trade like that.

I'd say the opposite. There is no chance that avs would accept a trade like that. Makar is a top 3 D for many years to come and is underpayed during this contract. Not trading a star player for a bunch of hope during their cup-window.

Spot on. Not a lot of value going back to habs there for a quality player with a low cap hit. Should have generated a lot more value than that.

Okay, something like 1st+Barron/Annunen/OO+JT+late pick/low tier prospect. Kind of expenseive, but I don't hate it and would accept it just because we really should go for it this year. But guess you would want to upgrade late pick to a 2nd, and then its a no for me.

Straight Girard for Giroux is a big overpay from Avs perspective, why would you add pick and prospect on top of that?
Fluery could be nice, but not with Newhook involved and not at that cap hit. Think D depth is more prioritized over a new goalie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>It cost a 2nd to dump 2 years of Compher. So I would say add a 1st all together then upgrade Sampo to a more legitimate prospect</div></div>
Under those circumstances there will be no trade from avs perspective then. 1st, 2nd, compher and legitimate prospect like Newhook/Byram will never happen for a rental. I don't see a 2nd just for dumping Comhper as reasonable at all, Avs management would never do such thing since they see him as a contributing player. Though I agree that he is well overpayed and does not add value to the trade.

Colorado Avalanche signed Andreas Wingerli (1 Year / $925,000 AAV)
Saw a few games during Swedens horrible WC, but the only player that was unknown to me before and that I was sort of impressed by - was Wingerli. Quick, energetic with work ethics and saw some good takeaways from him.
Also spoke with a friend who follows Skellefteå AIK about the signing, he was furious and told me that he was supposed to be a leading player for the team in the coming SHL season. This signing really could become a steal, and if not Avs lose nothing but a contract spot. Great signing.
