<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Affectionate_Side_64</b></div><div>Some interesting mental gymnastics going on here to say the least. You're right, I did miss Tatar who scored 20 on the nose. There's nothing even remotely impressive about anything you said though, and comparing their scoring to that of the Stars last year is interesting to say the least.
Yes, they have an elite D core. That's exactly why they shouldn't be satisfied with a forward group that awful....</div></div>
You can call it interesting mental gymnastics but there's 4 guys who had 20+ goals last year, and Nuchiskin had 17 in 53 games (25 in 62 the previous year), so it's not a stretch to think they could have 5 guys with 20+ goals.
I know you were criticizing the forward group, but what I was saying was that you are overlooking the potential. I think the biggest thing that they missed in losing Kadri is having a 2C, not the production, and so if RJO can fulfill those 2C duties, then they should be better. I'm sure they would like to have a better group but they can be satisfied with what they have because, at the end of the day, their Dcore is going to make them a contender which is why I mentioned them.
Worth noting that Vegas only had 3 guys with 20+ goals last year + Stone (17G in 43GP) and the Oilers only had 4 guys. The Oilers were 1st in league scoring though, Dallas was 7th, Colorado was 11th, and Vegas was 14th. Seattle was 4th. If we look at which of these teams had the least goals allowed it was Dallas who was 3rd overall. Colorado was 9th (3rd best in the West - Minnesota was 6th best overall), Vegas 11th, Seattle 15th, and Oilers 17th.

How they address the goaltending now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>With where the Av's are sitting on any waiver wire list, the only way they add a waiver bound goalie is by jumping the line by trading a 4th to 6th Rd pick to get their goalie of choice.</div></div>
Why? Most teams have a better 2G than all the guys on this list. Hence why you waive a 3G. The only reason why you claim a guy is because of injury. Last season, there were 3 goalies that were claimed off waivers:
Connor Ingram (on October 10)
Jonas Johansson x2 (on September 30 and October 12)
Magnus Hellberg x3 (on October 3, November 10, November 23)
I'm not going to go through and count every goalie that was waived last year, but I imagine there were at least 20 that pass through waivers in early October (as just about every team waives their 3G unless it's someone young who is waiver exempt). The market here isn't really conducive to getting a meaningful return when all of these guys are marginal players.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dru34</b></div><div>Waiting to claim a goalie is less reliable and could take longer than the Avs are willing to wait to get a backup in the mix to relieve Georgie. When you factor that the Avs are more likely to let Frankie walk to Free agency after this season, It seems more probable that the Avs will trade for a goalie that has multiple years under contract. I keep seeing Vladar from the Flames in trade rumours, he is 26 with 2 years under contract, it more appropriately fills the backup role for the Avs so Annunen, Miner and Holm can get a couple more years to cook and level themselves up. Frankie to the Flames with a pick for Vladar seems like the best move available for both teams since the Flames have Dustin Wolf as their big up and coming guy between the pipes.</div></div>
Annunen and Holm become waiver eligible next year. Miner is still sequestered in the ECHL. Ideal state is that Annunen is ready for an NHL job next season. Why not give him a trial run at the beginning of this year and trade for a goalie if it doesn't work out? Or claim a cheap guy and give Annunen another year to cook.

U pretty much nailed the top 6 buddy. I'm really high on Malinski rn too, but I think he needs to prove himself to the coaches one more time. If he continues to lead the team at the rookie tourney, he could be a potential JJ replacement/swapper

And even if Drouin can't hang, we have Tatar as a back-up option who can still skate with that top 6. I think you could see Nichuskin and Lehky switch spots, but other than that I agree this top 6 looks potentially more put together than last year's. And if we have an expectation of a 50-point season from RyJo as opposed to an 80-90, we're gonna be happy with his play.

Goalies Option 1
I say let Annunen ride the bench to start the season. He gets a few games of experience before being the number 1 up in Loveland. If he tanks, Holm is fine too. I just don't see the difference between those two and the available options right now.

low cap hit, a perfect depth defender. We wouldn't let him go for anything lower than a 4th.
id actually say a 4th is the minimum bid.</div></div>
COL already had Rosen and he couldn’t make the team, and not a chance in hell COL trades Girard and a 1st for a winger, a high end 2C with term maybe but throw in the fact Manson might be still hurt and they aren’t trading a cost controlled puck moving young dman. Tatar is the amazing disappearing guy in the playoffs he is a hard pass and Drouin is going to run with Mack, expect to see RyJo with Rantanen anchor the second and Colton and Wood to anchor the 3rd. I expect RyJo to have a massive bounce back especially with extended time with Rantanen and probably a spot on PP1.

This is weird:
Nuke is very good and you’re trading him for close to nothing. Ok, maybe you don’t trust him given the off-season he’s having and you’re using the cap dump to do something interesting?
Then you follow it up with Kane, a player already in steep decline, at $6.8M for THREE YEARS?! He’ll be 38 when that ends and it’s already an overpay today.
Donskoi missed the entire 2022-2023 season and only had 2 goals in the season immediately prior. If he doesn’t retire, the dude is a PTO candidate. Why is he getting two years of term?
Poolparty is the only one that makes sense here, and even then he’s out for a while getting a major hip surgery. Not sure what his timeline is, but safe to say that he’s a question mark also.

Manson is a quality player on a good contract when healthy. Besides, if we're talking about resigning Toews, we're going to need the cap space. So tbh, we could lose them both

I've always thought Nino was a solid middle-six guy. Don't care for the price but he'd be an ideal 3rd liner on the Avs that could slide up to the 2nd line if needed.

Colorado 2023-24
Cool so a couple notes here: Kovalenko will not be coming over until April and he will likely get a spot on the 3rd line. Drouin was signed specifically to play MacKinnon's wing and if he can't thrive there he's probably cut. Cogliano will definitely get the 4th like LW spot. Our D pairings are more fluid than my bathroom trips after eating taco bell, but under no circumstances will JJ and Manson be on the ice together.

Freeing up a roster spot. Columbus has something like 17 forwards to sort through this summer. Roslovic is an extremely frustrating player because he thinks he’s a center but he has no hockey IQ, so while he can do all of the actions of hockey very well he can’t anticipate.

In the description I said I saw it in a Columbus ACGM and wanted to do it from the Avs perspective. Not sure why Columbus would do it but I can see why the Avs would.
