Doesnt help the leafs at all really, any improvement over brodie is lost offensively and a 25+ pick doesnt cover the difference, especially with retention.
Toews is good, he aint that good

Toews for Nylander is fair (but I don’t think either team does it)
Brodie for a 1st is an overpay

Girard gets more than a 3rd

any acgm that has macdermid as a full time player pretty much means colorado has gotten weaker

Avs need Toews more than Nylander, have the possibility of extending Toews under some circumstances, and do not under any circumstances for Nylander. This hasn't changed. Time is a flat circle. Avs decline again

That's a gosh awful Girard trade for anywhere. And again, Nylander is not happening

He played a bunch of games 2 seasons ago, they could easily get a player at the deadline when they have more cap

Girard’s minimum value is hard established as a 1st and 2nd at the very least. Toews for Nylander is only a thing on Maple Leaf boards. Hard no. Over all this is horrendous.

He played those games mostly as an injury replacement, which is what he should be on a contending team. He hasn't played over 60 games in a season ever and that's because he's a 7th D. He can't be in the opening night lineup.

I'm going to play this from the Toronto angle: Why would they give up arguably their 2nd best defenseman for our 2nd best defenseman with retention AS WELL as Nylander and only get a late first in addition? This may be fair value on paper, but it's not going to make sense for either team. Also Girard is under contract for 3 more seasons at a pretty reasonable hit. He should get at least a decent prospect as well as a 3rd.

Have you watched him play hockey? Guy can barely skate backwards. He’s awful.

He did play 58 games 2 years ago. He played less than 10 minutes 46 times. Including 16 games where he played less than 5 minutes. And then the Avs healthy scratched him for 20 straight games in the playoffs on the way to a cup win.

Yeah they did that after they acquired Jack Johnson at the deadline. Playing him 56 games wont make them magically not be a playoff team. Then when their cap space goes up near the deadline, they go and acquire someone else

This was 2021-2022 where Jack Johnson was on the opening night roster. The Avs actually trusted Jack Johnson to play an NHL role and gave him 16:45 a night, including heavy PK time. MacDermid averaged 7:24 a night and can’t play special teams.

For 2022-2023, MacDermid increased his ice time to a whopping 8:20 on average.

He might be the worst player in the NHL. I’d take just about any waiver claim over MacDermid.

Even a few years older, JJ getting 13-15 a night is still WAY preferable to a nightly dose of Dermy. And I am one of those sick people that still defends us keeping Dermy as a reliable D/F replacement in a pinch. But yeah......NEVER as a regular player. Ever.
