If Jones is going to Col it means the Avs fleeced a team again because they are run by one of the best GM's in hockey and not a guy who writes articles for clicks. Especially when the article was using Erik Karlsson in his prime as the comp.</div></div>
Sakic has been a good trader the last handful of years but he's still just a man. He's not going to fleece every damn trade he makes, regardless of how fun it is for Avs fans to joke about. If that were the case GMs just straight up would not trade with him anymore.

Unless Saad takes $4.5m x 2-3 yrs, then he's gone. That assumes that there's none of this Jones nonsense either. Keep the prospects, sign Oleksiak for cheap, try to move Kadri and get an anchor of a 2C, and run it back</div></div>
I agree EJ is going to try to come back, I just remember how damn frail he was last season. If he does come back I think the odds are very slim he stays in the lineup for much of the season.

Sincerely doubt EJ will go on LTIR, so no magic wand for you.</div></div>
Like I said, if EJ plays then no Saad they'd have to go for a cheaper winger.

Why the bloody hell do you have Ian Cole and Mark Barberio playing over Sam Girard?!? Also Connor Timmins will probably be with the big club by then.

I would be tempted to do a Top 6 of
Skinner Mack Rants
Landy Jost Ghetto
Use Landy to babysit Jost defensively until he is fully comfortable as the 2C</div></div>
I would be tempted too, but as long as that top line of 92-29-96 is producing like they did last year you leave them alone

Colorado needs more top 6 wingers. So lets trade out our best winger for a lesser winger? Rantanen is probably almost as untouchable as MacKinnon right now.

I almost resigned Bernier, but I really think he's going to walk. Everyone else on the free market is meh but I agree assuming Francouz can hang in the NHL is probably not the safest idea.

Horrible return for Duchene. You can keep old man Seabrook with his horrible contract. He is the opposite of what Colorado is trying to do

Mostly just screwing around, but Iginla will be gone after next year. Soderberg is my guess as the player the Avs loose in the expansion draft.

Getting Faulk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JacLax</b></div><div><i>I could definitely see this CAR trade happening. I think the main issue is if CAR thinks that Hanifin can develop to replace Faulk and if Pesce, or another defensive prospect can fill that top line spot. Works well for both terms, dealing from positions of strength to strengthen a position of weakness. A good ole hockey trade. Also important to consider Faulk's great contract. This could also muck up negotiations a bit.
And at this point I think that Barrie to EDM almost makes too much sense.</i></div></div>
Keep in mind Duchene's contract is pretty good too.

Getting Faulk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LobsterMagnet19</b></div><div><i><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Peterman</b></div><div><i>I like it. Might have to send Meloche to CAR to pry away Faulk, but overall a well balanced roster.</i></div></div>
I think it's pretty fair as is. Honestly? I don't even know if you have to add Holden for Duchene. As far as 1-for-1 swaps go that one is very close. A lot like Johansen-Jones last season.
I'd be pretty wary of paying Demers that much after his play towards the end of the season and in the playoffs... but it's a minor gripe. As far as Barrie... If it reaches the point where the Avalanche feel they HAVE to trade him, they could do worse than that package but I honestly think they could do better and I also don't expect that gets resolved by the draft. The two sides could easily wind up getting a deal done either in arbitration or just before the arbitration deadline. Trading Barrie before the June draft feels to me like the Avalanche would be giving up on a contract resolution far too soon.</i></div></div>
I agree trading Barrie should be a last case scenario, and you're right if he does become available Sakic would have 29 teams calling him so it's possible to get a better deal elsewhere. Having both Dubois and Sergachev in the pipeline would be really nice though. Dubois is the mold of player Roy likes and if Sergachev hits his potential he could be a top pairing defensemen. In 3-5 years Colorado could have a top four of Zadorov, Bigras, Meloche, Sergachev.
It's hard for me to evaluate how Carolina values Faulk. Both Faulk and Duchene are on good contracts, both are first liners at their position. I think Faulk would be perfect for Colorado, and likewise I think Duchene is exactly what Carolina needs. I'm not sure if Colorado would need to add but I think adding Meloche is a little high. Meloche has the potential to be a real good defenseman in the NHL.
Demers... yeah. UFA.
The expansion draft would suck, as we'd have to expose some good players. There are too many defenseman to take the 7 forwards, 3 defenseman route. They'd have to protect 8 skaters.
1. Mackinnon
2. Landeskog
3. Radulov
4. Grigorenko
5. Johnson
6. Faulk
7. Zadorov
8. Beauchemin (NMC)
1. Varlamov
Exempt: Bigras, Rantanen, Compher
Exposed: Soderberg, Demers, Pickard, Matthias, Comeau, Yakupov, Gelinas

Trading Duchene is stupid
In this hypothetical situation I'm looking at if Barrie wants $$$ that Roykic isn't willing to give him. I agree loosing a to 4 D is unacceptable for this team and a Barrie-Harmonic swap might be the best top 4 replacement we can get for him.
I wouldn't be surprised if NYI add something to make this trade happen, but I didn't include that in this mockup.
