Any word on Johnson and Portillo signing? Were they both at prospect camp? Portillo being 3rd in line, Levi and UPL, and Johnson being 4th or 5th LHD, doesn't lead to lucrative careers.

trading Tanev would hurt just as much as letting Gaudreau walk. Sending two firsts for olofsson, and to dump Monahan is funny, especially when Monahan only has a year left on his contract. Flames decline both with ease.

The trade is quantity over quality. Marner got 10.9 Matthews got 11. What makes you think Tkachuk is going to take 8 million?

I will focus on the Buffalo trade only - I like Woll. He has a lot of promise. BUT Devon Levi is one of the top goalie prospects in the world (if not, the #1 goalie prospect in the world). Buffalo easily declines this.

Opening Night Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Archarte</b></div><div>I don't think Kevin Adams is done yet. I think we have a slight chance of seeing James van Riemsdyk being traded over from Philly with a 1st round pick in 2023. Johnny G is still in the works for the Flyers and they will need to move that cap space. Buffalo is one of three potential trade partners to get that done.</div></div>
Like the failed trade with Ottawa that would have netted the 7th overall pick, I don't see the dream scenario of the JVR+1st rumor happening - especially with the Flyers right now at only $3M cap space left. If Gaudreau is seeking $10M+ as rumored, even if the Flyers dump JVR, they'd be right at the cap by adding him. But, heck, I'll take their 23' 1st anyday if they gift it to Buffalo for JVR's cap dump. Sabres would probably retain 50% on JVR and try to turn around and deal him elsewhere for a lower pick - they sure don't want to have him eat a roster spot that Quinn and Peterka should get.

Long Term Outlook with UFA signings through 2025
I applaud the level-headed approach of mapping out the homegrown approach (as that does seem the way Adams and Sabres intend to build their roster now and in the future) but, seeing as your lineup is for the 2024-25 season, I do question:
- Okposo, for all of his leadership qualities, still playing in 3 years - he's 34 now with a history of health issues. My gut feeling is he finishes out his contract this coming season, plays 1 more after on a 1-year extension and then retires.
- Unless there's another pandemic in 3 years, the taxi squad won't exist.
- Mittelstadt is still an uproven enigma at this point but he doesn't seem destined to still be around in 3 years - even moreso if he can't make the roster and be a taxi squad player.
- Hard to also see Ruotsalainen (who's up in the air this summer if he'll get the kind of extension he'd want or if Granato will even give him a chance vs being AHL bound again) or Fitzgerald being in the organization in 3 years.
- Bryson seems likely to become a trade chip at some point - which would be sooner than 3 years if Johnson does actually sign with Buffalo before next year.
- It'd be a novel concept and all 3 are still likely to be in the organization in 3 years but the odds of Skinner-Thompson-Tuch still being on same line would be very rare.
- Purely speculation based on his limited stint in NHL thus far but if Samuelsson plays this coming season like he did last season, he's going to warrant a new deal closer to $4M than the $2.5M bridge deal you suggested.
- Also just a gut feeling but I suspect Krebs will be on either the 1st or 2nd line in 3 years and bigger point producer (albeit heavier on the assists than in goals) than many give him credit for being capable of.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BuFfaLOFaN</b></div><div>Campbell that long is a bad idea, blocks both Levi and Portillo.</div></div>
I disagree. After eleven consecutive years of suck, Buffalo fans have forgotten that competitive teams manage cap differently from tank jobs and rebuilders.
Good players won't sign unless you meet the market on salary and term. If you're limited to two years, you're only going to be able to sign marginal players (think Cody Eakin), not difference-makers.
Structure Campbell's contract so it's easy to buy out if you're looking for flexibility. Or trade him with retention if one of the young goalies pushes him out. Honestly, any term under five years is manageable unless he completely falls apart in year one or two. That's a calculated risk. Four years would be preferable.
Now $6.5 AAV? Seems a bit rich. You might get him at 4x6M or 5x5.5M. Unless he's a top ten goalie, trade him after year two for whatever you can get.

Campbell that long is a bad idea, blocks both Levi and Portillo. I don't like signing a goalie past 2 years. Cozens is probably the best center the sabres have for the future. Think he's our PPG two-way 1C with Thompson being a decent 2. That top 4 defense is siick 2bh.

Tampa is also benefitting from no state taxes and the fact they won back to back cups so players sign cheaper. Did you see the Kaako interview at the end of the year? seems like he would rather play in atlanta than for the rangers

They don’t have the cap space to match that offer and his relationship with the team is damaged after he told reporters “He wasn’t told the reason he was scratched”
