Major cap hell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>He isn’t that good. His defense is god awful and his offense is slightly above average.</div></div>
Like I don't even know what to do with this, man.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheEarthmaster</b></div><div>Letting Pietrangelo walk would open up a major weakness. Parayko might be able to take the reigns and Faulk step into the second pair, but it's not ideal. We are also pretty weak on the left side D, especially without Bouwmeester due to Gunnarsson's tendency to be injury prone and the newness of our LHD prospects.</div></div>
The LD spot will look different next year. I think Mikkola has what it takes to step up.

Trade Deadline primer
At this point, passing on a rental doesn't seem like the opposite of "going for it". I think between now and the deadline, if one of Blais and Kyrou can stick in the top9, there isn't a pressing need to add anything except maybe a tiny depth piece like another MDZ. I think most Blues fans on here are balking at rentals because the proposals often include Kostin who should be able to find a spot on the roster for 2 ELC seasons - those are the guys that we'll need to get through this cap crunch. No point in drawing conclusions yet, but it will be interesting to see what happens between now and the TDL and how Armstrong approaches it.

Toffoli
retention will cost more--i don't actually agree that the value is perfect. this trade is slanted in STL's favor, although slightly. LAK has the space and isn't doing anything with it, but that space has value to the blues and LAK will try and leverage that into a nicer prospect than walman or another late pick. obviously not a high value prospect, but a toropchenko would level things out a bit.
i think this trade value is fine if the retention is closer to 1m.

I agree that most of those guys would be overpayments for rental Toffoli if they came along with a 2nd round pick. Alexandrov was the other guy that I was going to suggest, but I think the Kings would be fine with either Toropchenko or Alexandrov since they're both expansion draft exempt.
One of the more reasonable Toffoli trade proposals I've seen. Good work.

Hall to STL
My Xbox dream trade is getting them to take Faulk in a package and then trading Allen/Bozak/Perron in the offseason so we can sign both Hall and Pietro.

Leafs Blues Huge Trade
Good deal from TOR's perspective, but I don't think the Blues would trade Pietrangelo as long as they think they're Cup contenders. Their current roster is too cohesive for a major shakeup, in my opinion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>Could honestly be</div></div>
What if it’s like Allen+Bortuzzo for Ceci+pick. It’s janky af but the Leafs get a backup and a decent defender while the Blues shed salary for 20-21 that they can use to sign Pietrangelo.

It may not be pretty, but it was inevitable Josi was getting a deal like this, with that being said, I think it’s fair to call John Carlsons contract a steal and Erik Karlssons to be awful

Thread:
Can We Sign Schenn and Pietrangelo
1) I don't think Pietrangelo is in that ball park. He's a great defenseman. But he is a tier below Karlsson and Doughty. I think he more compares to OEL and Carlson in Washington. That puts him at about 8 which is where I think he belongs
2) in regards to Schenn you are under paying him. He is what he is, which remarkably is about the 25th best c in the league over the last 3 years (he doesn't feel like that to me either but when you actually sit down and look at his production it puts him there). He's probably a hair behind duchene. With guys like Brock Nelson getting 6 million and Hayes getting 7, he should slot in between them and Duchene. Somewhere around 8 or just below.
Not saying you have to sign Schenn just what I suspect he gets.
Also you guys are super high on Thomas to have him as your 1c after a 30 point rookie year (and 6 points in 21 go in playoffs). I get that he's 20 and we all hope players progress well but to assume he's your 1c in 2 years? That seems pushing it.
I think your better off signing Schenn and trading Bozak then running Schenn/O'Reilly/Thomas

No way STL does it, but you having Chabot-Parayko as pairing? OH BOY!

I would probably look at someone really really good for me to be able to process giving up any of those 4.</div></div>
They should dominate at a prospect camp that’s for sure, but I do really like both of them as prospects. I can understand your willingness to want to keep them being a Blues fan. Great run last year but you think they can repeat without a move?

No this is a steal. So thinking about how people wanted him 2.75M for 2 Years. That's what the idea was, but getting him for 4 years is actually such a steal for an important role player.

Lol not even close. Schwartz is a top winger, Thomas is a young player with 1st line potential and the 1st. Thats enough

Continuing the Turnaround
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Las Vegas is only in the market for RD's, and you don't have anyone in that category with trade value roughly equivalent to Gusev that might appeal to them (with the possible exception of Robert Bortuzzo).</div></div>
Vegas also needs bottom six depth with upside and I figured Fabbri would be the Haula replacement on the third line for super cheap. I still think if he is & stays healthy he can be a fast skating buzz saw type 0.5ppg guy as soon as next year.
In addition to Bortuzzo, the Blues have Mitch Reinke on RD who looks like is ready for at least a chance on the bottom pair in the NHL after 45 points in 76 games in the AHL last season. Perhaps Vegas could swap Gusev for either of those guys with a second to off set the age difference (in Bortuzzo), or upside difference (in Reinke).

A lot of effort put into this, very nice work. I worry about the LD, specifically Bouw and Gun staying healthy. I liked the Pouliot signing and think he could be a decent bottom pair guy for us. I definitely think we should take a chance on Gusev.

I like it! I agree that it looks like Fabbri is the odd man out among our young group of RFA forwards. But you have to remember that Blais and fabbri were both non-factors in the regular season. We still have bench space, so I'd like to see matching 1 year deals for Blais/Fabbri to see if they make any progress. Not sure any of our other forward prospects are ready to make the jump besides maybe Kyrou.
I don't want to see Maroon/Gunnarsson go, but hopefully they can cash in somewhere.
Next offseason, with the 4 mil in cap space you have available plus hopefully Bouwmeester retiring, thats around 7-8 mil free, should be enough to cover the 3 big FA's
