no I think he means a #3 dman, so like a second pairing Dman. if he doesnt mean that, then he is wrong. Petry is a great #2 dman and frankly this trade is alittle lopsided as Toronto is the only team getting value here.

Assuming MTL looks like this who do you draft
Kakko without any doubt! Extremely talented and NHL ready. The chemistry that he had with Kotkaniemi at the u18 was outstanding. The best would be to have a top 3 pick and a top 12 pick acquired in a trade during the season so we can draft one of Broberg, Robertson or Honka. Even Byram if he still there.

What Happens When All Helathy
up front if possible I would move the following: A. Shaw. If Scherbak can be moved to Laval without any issues regarding waivers, then I would give him one more year in AHL.
On back end: If possible, which I doubt, I would move Alzner (probably eating some salary) and Benn.

Addressing Needs With a 3 Way Deal (MTL - OTT - LAK)
Yeah i'm surprised this actually turned out to be sort of reasonable
Think it over favors MTL just a bit, considering what LA gives up for Patches, MTL gives much less for Duchene
but considering all the moving pieces its not bad (4 stars)

Addressing Needs With a 3 Way Deal (MTL - OTT - LAK)
From a Kings perspective, I'd be ok with all of that except for trading Lewis. He's a bigger part of the team than most people realize and wouldn't just be a throw in. Change Lewis to Clifford and I'd pull the trigger, contingent on Pacioretty agreeing to an extension in the $6-6.5M range (Kings can't afford him at $7M+).

Ekman-Larrson/Weber would be the scariest first pairing in the league. I'm ususally anxious when people talk about trading out 3rd ova, but man that would be killer. I still think AZR says no, he's absolutely their best player.

Draft Day Trade With MTL
I like the Idea - but I think MTL would trade Patch for a 1st and a blue chip prospect... not an established player in Anisimov.

Interesting idea, but i think the Hawks would ask one of our second and i dont know how keen they will be to get an injury riddle Shaw.

Patches to the West (don't think this is that unrealistic)
Not bad. Really all depends on if CGY adds a C this summer, they won't wanna move Jankowski unless they do so.
I think LA is a good spot for Patches too

The right and realistic way to move forward

Quoting: BIGBOYBENN

I highly doubt Byron gets us Hertl's rights. I Think a minimum of Byron + 2018 2nd (TOR) + 2019 2nd (MTL) for Martin's contract dump + Hertl's Rights..... They have no reason to trade him and he's a great 2nd liner

he's a natural center and they already got Couture, Pavelski, Doonskoi, Karlsson and Tierney who all can play center so Byron would fit in great behind Kane on the second/third line.
But i agree the value might not be perfect and yea it may require a second round pick which im totaly okay to give up. I also think the sharks are going to be the most likely destination for JT if he is hitting the market july 1st and with Kane most likely to stay and Vlassic contract starting, cap space is important.

The Alzner Effect
Alzner did fine this year. He got one less point than last year. He played similar minutes, similar zone starts. his PDO dropped, but his Fenwick, corsi, and corsi rel went up. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/a/alzneka01.html
Sadly, though, given how much better Carlson played with Orpik and Djoos this year, I don't think Alzner is enough to lure him to Montreal. On the bright side, he can totally make a phone call to Luke Schenn.
I guess neither Alzner nor Orpik was the world's greatest defenseman, but they are each above average stay at home guys, and by taking turns playing the tough minutes, they made those defensive assignments easy for each other. And yes, if you really want him, you can have Orpik, too.
Or you could just try to get Emelin back. might have the same effect.

MTL Selects 2nd Overall, What Would You Do?
Trade down for 10th and 12th pick from NYI (maybe even more)
Trade 10th and 34th overall for 5th or 6th overall and take Hughes
Take Hayton or Kotkaniemi with 12th overall
This means instead of getting Zadina or Svechnikov(were already full on the left wing)
We get a future top pairing dman and a future top 6 center

I can’t speak for how good prospects are, I’m not a professional by any means. But, I have watched Svechnikov multiple times ( I live near Barrie) and he is incredible. I know we need centers, trading could get us one, would it be the one to change the franchise though?
I think he is good enough to change a franchise, averaged more points per game then Connor Mcdavid in the OHL and seemed to have the puck just come to him.
I’d takw Svechnikov, if he turns into the next Patty Kane he would look really good with out shooting wingers like Lehkonen and Galchenyuk

Zadina, We need goal scores. We can draft a solid defencemen at the top of the 2nd with ours or Hawks pick. We have Metee and Juulsen which are 2 young d. If we draft at 5-6 and Boqvist is there Ill be happy with us selecting him.

Always a cool thing to look at. Everyone knows though one redo likely screws up the rest of them (Giroux on the Canadiens means they likely don’t get the picks they do in later drafts)

Adding Depth at Centre
I like these trades. Lehkonen, and Byron are players I do actually quite like, but there’s a boat load of wingers in the habs organization so getting some help in the top 9 for centres by creating packages is a great idea
