run it back
Is it really possible for Galchenyuk to sign another $1M deal after having a nice little season with Toronto? I've seen a couple of these mockups with Galchenyuk making that amount. And did I miss something with Kerfoot? I know Tampa took advantage of the LTIR this year, but there's no way Toronto is going to do the same with Kerfoot.

Why would they need compensation to take Scandella? Solid LHD that's locked up for 3 more years @ $3.25M/per and is very good on the PK. If you ask me, that's the kind of guy you want to take in an expansion draft.
I'm expecting someone to OS Dunn or for him to be the other option taken by Seattle, so I didn't worry about adding him here. Not to mention, if someone did OS Dunn and he signed elsewhere, the Blues would get compensated. If he's re-signed by the Blues, great. Obviously my expectations will be revised in some manner.

If I had to guess, they'll protect:
FWDs
- ROR
- Schenn
- Tarasenko (though I wish they'd leave him exposed)
- Perron
- Sundqvist
- Thomas
- Kyrou
D
- Parayko
- Faulk
- Krug
G
- Binnington
That would leave guys like Scandella, Dunn, Blais, Bortuzzo, and Clifford exposed. Personally, I'd take Scandella if I'm Seattle, as he's locked up until 2024 on a very team-friendly $3.25M AAV. Veteran leadership, a guy who can eat minutes, and a nice asset for the PK.

That's an awful lot of dough to shell out for Vince Dunn. He's a nice LHD with some offensive skill, but you could likely get him for half that cost.

You're not familiar with how the RFA process works, are you? If you are, then I laid out for you in my previous post why I think it's possible someone would exceed what Calgary would be willing to match for an OS. You following, bromigo?
And yes, I am making **** up... this is called "armchair GM" for a reason. None of this is meant to wad ten-ply panties like yours, as it's all OPINIONATED, based on what some people would LIKE to see happen or what some people may EXPECT to see happen. Now, unwad and carry on.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>He is an RFA after the 2021-22 year. We have 2 years of control nice try thougj</div></div>
He's an RFA after the season (which I said) and already making $7M. A lot of teams will be willing to OS Tkachuk, even for the RFA compensation that would head back to Calgary. Calgary is going to have some bad or bloated contracts coming off the books in the next couple years, with Giordano and Lucic, but they have several players that they'll need to re-sign, such as Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm, Mangiapane, etc, and have several players coming off ELCs who will eat into that cap as well.
Maybe it's my philosophical disposition, but if I'm a GM, I'm looking at players who will net some strong returns while keeping the franchise cap-compliant and financially flexible. Maybe I'm pipe-dreaming here, but I'm at least offering some kind of substance behind my opinion.

Welp, this is "armchair" GMing, for a reason... Care to posit your position and what you'd expect/like to see Armstrong do?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lunatik</b></div><div>This is completely untrue ad that trade is dog ****</div></div>
For one year of "control" with a disgruntled player, I don't really believe it's bad. I truly don't. Calgary isn't re-signing Tkachuk and they're not really in a position of strength with him. Sure, they could ask for the moon, but when they're left holding the bag, I don't think most would look at that deal as horrible.
For reference, Boston traded a 2nd and Bjork to Buffalo in exchange for a rental with Hall. Totally different scenarios, I know, but if you look around the NHL in recent years, you'll find that when a player isn't controlled for 1+ years, the returns aren't going to be on par with a player's worth. Tkachuk is 23 and a stud already, so there's more value with him (assuming a prospective franchise can lock him up for a few years), but if the Blackhawks/Columbus can accomplish a trade that sends Panarin AND Motte, as well as a 6th to Columbus for (lulz) Saad, Forsberg, and a 5th, I don't think this is too crazy a trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dzinger18</b></div><div>Coleman won't sign for that. Any other team will pay him way more or he'll just stay in Tampa. This team isn't a contender anyways, just painfully average. Depth still isn't great either. This team just simply isn't in a position right now where they can build into a proper contender. With this, they're just a bit better than the team they are now. The farthest I can see them going is 2nd round at best.</div></div>
Before the Covid suspension last year, the Blues were 2nd in the NHL in standings (also without Tarasenko). I don't think it's outlandish to consider the Blues a contender in the West. Are they behind Vegas and Colorado right now? Absolutely. But guess what? Colorado and Vegas are going to be up against that cap crunch and both have several players hitting FA (Landeskog, for one. Makar is a RFA, as well, so if the Blues or another Western team wanted to severely screw COL over, they could easily offer Makar an OS that would make life very difficult for Sakic and Co). With a flat cap, a lot of teams will be taking a step back in 2022. The Blues have the luxury of some big contracts coming off the books in Bozak, Schwartz, and Hoffman. If they can land a guy like Hamilton to replace what Pietrangelo was able to do here (as great as Pietro was for the Blues, that's not an unachievable task for someone like Dougie), they're going to be right back in that mix.
ROR, Perron, Schenn, Faulk, Krug, (healthy) Parayko, Thomas, Kyrou, Sundqvist and Barbashev are all very good players to build around. An infusion of youth and some of these prospects the Blues have been banking on for their future -- Kostin, Perunovich, Neighbors, Joshua, Blais -- will have the Blues right where they've been over the last decade. They're consistently contenders and as we've seen from the likes of Montreal and NYI (hell, even Carolina), a solid system with good goaltending can get you to the top, or very close.

He wants out of Calgary and the feeling seems to be mutual with Sutter. A 1st, 3rd, and 6th, while taking $7M off their hands is a pretty fair deal, if you ask me.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>Number 1, Parayko is not locked up for term. Next year is the last of his contract. With Krug and Faulk locked up long term on the backend along with Hamilton as well as Schenn and Binnington, the Blues will have a lot of 30+ year old players on giant contracts that won't be movable. That not harms the Blues financially, but can stifle young players growth. I like Landeskog, I wish he was on the Blues, but you're going to have to dump Schenn's contract. And while the cap won't be flat forever, it's also not going to jump to 90+ mil for 5 years at least. In that time you're going to have to sign Kyrou or Thomas to long term contracts and if they don't grow or decide to sign elsewhere you're looking at trying to infuse more youth to go along with those old man contracts. It doesn't make sense.
Seattle will take Dunn if available and the Blues don't make a deal with them. Blues already have cap issues as it is. If you sign Hamilton, say goodbye to Parayko who is the better defender when healthy. Keep Scandella? Goodbye to Dunn (if he isn't taken by Seattle).</div></div>
Personally, I think you have to go for it while the window is still open. Yeah, Schenn, ROR, Perron, etc aren't young, relative to the league. But they're still pieces that improve the odds of winning a Cup. Same can be said if you're able to bring in two guys like Landeskog and Hamilton. Hamilton will turn 28 in about a month, so you've got plenty of time with him. Landeskog is 28, Schenn is soon to be 30, ROR turned 30 in February.
There's plenty of youth that needs to get time, I agree. But guys like Tarasenko, Perron, and Clifford will be gone in the next 2-3 years. In the meantime, there will still be opportunities and minutes available for Kyrou, Thomas, Kostin, Neighbors (eventually), Joshua, etc. You're not hamstringing your future. And moves can always be made. There are plenty of teams around the deadline -- especially in the hunt -- that will take aging vets off your hands in an effort to capture that elusive Cup.
I think we just philosophically disagree with how this impacts the future. While savvy moves certainly need to be made (as they do with any franchise hovering around the cap), Armstrong is certainly more than capable of navigating a potential bottle neck.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>Guess Dunn is just gone then? Also, this will kill the Blues long term. Don't see any of these moves happening with the exception of Coleman. Won't be able to sign Landeskog with Schenn's contract there.</div></div>
No reason to think one of Dunn or Scandella may be taken in the Expansion Draft. Why couldn't these moves be made, and how would they "kill the Blues long term"? Hamilton is a legitimate top pairing Dman, and $8M AAV isn't going to throttle a franchise for a player like that -- especially considering guys like Krug, Faulk, Parayko and Scandella are all signed long-term. That's a pretty dynamic blue line, if you ask me. And Landeskog would be a similar addition for the FWD group. That's a contract that's 100% worth the player's value, and you've already got some of your heavy hitters locked up, long term. This also includes extending guys coming off ELC's, like Thomas and Kyrou.
Also, keep in mind that the Cap will not remain flat forever.
