We stink (2/2)
At 5.5 million I hope we can get a 6th year on Skjei's contract. Most people I talk to want Skjei at 4 years at a 4.25-4.5 cap hit. He isn't McDonagh and when McD signed he could have been easily a 6x6 million signing back then.
With this team I think you need to get Nash away and have Aberg as the 3rd line RW. Sign a Desharnais like player at 1 million or use Holland as the 13th forward. We could even use Lettieri at that point and maybe trade away Fast (I know sacrilege) On defense with the cap space we have and will continue to have I say buyout Staal or try and force a Phaneuf like trade somewhere. Bereglazov seems like a bust of a signing. He was easily the weakest defenseman in camp while Pionk was the strongest.
While I like getting some of these defensemen from other teams with Gilmour and Pionk showing their progress already it might be only worth while getting 1 to take a spot.
Skjei-Shatty
Djoos-DeAngelo
Gilmour-Pionk
Seems just as good as what you have there and we prevent an actual log jam on defense as Day, Sjalin, Reunanen, and whoever else we draft or get can push for a spot in 1-3 years.

Sell Off
Considering the Boston deal is the least likely to happen that salary retention won't be needed. When moving McD I think we need to look at teams that playoff cusp teams and get some premium returns from them.

Soooooo what does Dallas going to the WCF have anything to do with the St. Louis pick?
Also why didn't you actually fill the roster?

Trades with WPG, SJS, TOR, NSH, and TBL
I like the trades. However Tampa also needs some depth wingers currently and in the future. Perhaps Nieves can be added as he is a good C/LW player or perhaps Vesey and then Tampa can toss in Raddysh.

Nash and McDonagh
Yeeeea it wouldn't go through because of thr state of NYR and there isn't enough to say yes to. If you were to drop Martin and Komarov for 2 of Nylander, Marner, or Liljegren then it would be a start. I would even say Rangers would be willing to part with a few more picks (exluding 2018 and 2019 1st). We wouldn't even require your 1st at that point either.

Your new New York Rangers
Come on guys. We all know the only likely deal out of all of these is the Desharnais one and even then it is a stretch. If any of these were options I'm sure NYR would have said yes to them all.

Oh Kane is probably going to bring in a package similar to Nash. 1st and top prospect or nhl ready player. At best just a slew of picks.

He's easily a 50 point player and can push for 60-70 if given 1st line minutes for the whole season. The most I would give him personally is 5.5 million.

Smith deal would be lucky if the 3rd comes back with how he has played this season. He regressed badly from last year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>Sounds about right. Leafs fans on here have a messed up concept of value when it's players from other teams.</div></div>
Granted their concept of Nylander's value isn't wrong and Liljegren is one of their top prospects. To get them both it would have to be something significant. Perhaps having Hayes in the deal is a little too much.

Down year? He is on pace for 3 less goals. He has 2 full 82 game seasons at 40+ points.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>This is a ridiculous gross overpayment. Drop Hayes, the 1st and Deangelo.</div></div>
Funny thing is that in my previous one I was told that the very trade with a conditional 1st (upon signing), no DeAngelo, and no Hayes was not enough.

Trade with Arz not OEL
Hjalmarsson actually has played both sides of the ice quite often. As well he was commonly used as Chicago's 2nd pairing anchor not as a 3rd pair. However because of Keith and Seabrook being the 1st pair the TOI is often skewed on that team for their defense. The Hammer is the pinnacle of defensive defensemen and would cost tje Leafs prime assests to acquire him. Connor Murphy is in the mold of Hjalmarsson but is right handed. Dauphin (who was recently traded back to the Coyotes) has middle 6 player potential so it isn't like he was traded for peanuts there.
I'd say try something like Borgman, Rychel, and a 4th.

Don't want to go through all the editing. The trade also includes the rights to Kevin Hayes.

1 trade and a few signings.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>If Nylander doesn't sign with Rangers???? He's a RFA. How does this help the Leafs Losing their # 2 scorer for a 1.5 year rental, and an year ending injury to Kreider? Plus Leafs # 1 prospect and a # 1 pick. No teams would offer as much to the Rangers, certainly not the Leafs.</div></div>
Connor Carrick is still pretty much a prospect and the leafs' number 1. Luckily Lupul's contract is done so don't have to worry about that LTIR but Kessel is still on the books as well as Horton. JVR and Bozak will want bigger pay checks and that will probably eat up a lot of the cap increase. So that leaves them with the 5 million from Lupul to sign Nylander, Leivo, Carrick, Holl, Komarov, and anyone else to round out the roster. In 2019 there is Matthews that would need to be signed and I doubt Toronto would not get him a big long term contract. Kreider can easily replace JVR and gives back about 2-3 million.
Also Leafs are getting the #1 not the other way around because I doubt Nylander wouldn't sign an NHL contract. I'm looking at this trade a little bit like the Callahan-St Louis trade as well as the Phaneuf trade. The values might be off a bit but you also have to look at it this way
Nylander is an RFA and doesn't have to accept a contract with the Rangers and since he doesn't have a contract it does lessen his value, not significantly though (the difference between the 1st overall and the 2nd overall). Liljegren will be a year removed from the draft. The Rangers will probably have their highest draft pick since taking Al Montoya in 2004 (6th overall). The Rangers are currently sitting in 21st place, although Buffalo is sitting at 30th, which would give Buffalo 2 picks in the top 10 and there are plenty of defensemen that would leap frog even Liljegren in this draft. San Jose is sitting at 9th and poised to make a run in to the second round of the playoffs making the 2nd round pick the Rangers will receive from this a glorified 3rd round.
So if anything getting McD and Kreider give the Leafs cap flexibility to be able to sign their priority free agents, be able to draft 2 replacement players with ease,
