What kind of return you expect? You wont get much better then that. Sure is contract is nice ans he can play the game but he isn’t a elite player.

Helleson is a oustanding rhd prospect. The kids made the Olympics roster, great skater with size, good stick, good positioning. Defend extremely well. Will have a bring futur in the NHL.

Garland
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlastnyFromThePastny</b></div><div>I think Garland and Nichushkin would likely change spots in the lineup here. Call me a homer but I'd prefer to remove one of Compher, Helleson or the 1st. I'm happy giving up Helleson, a first and third for Garland's prime years on a contract like this. He can come in when one of Kadri or Bura leave (that's the outcome I see.)
If Canucks really need more than that, maybe we can add Jost to this or maybe just move on and Nucks can find a buyer for that price.
Compher is such a beauty middle 6 forward and can slot into all special teams when need be. Someone you really want to keep for a deep playoff run.</div></div>
If we made this trade I'd rather put Garland on the 3rd line. He's at his best at 5v5 and this gives Newhook a proper skillful winger to play with. Nichuskin also elevates that 2nd line a lot too.
If this trade is made now or at the deadline then Compher would need to go the other way for cap purposes.

I mean after 3 days of 'not sleeping' and many nose touches during his "EPIC" interview, I think playoff leader Kucherov proved that kind of thing may NOT be a problem. Not like we're talking Kostitsyn brothers here.
EDIT: I don't think it's going to be his last line wherever he goes...</div></div>
Kucherov is a god though

Tyler Taylor and Tarasenko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlastnyFromThePastny</b></div><div>Really? I mean I know it's been a tricky year for scouting but the guy often touted as going 1st overall isn't projected to be elite? Why is he touted as going 1st overall? Where are the elite defensemen in this draft?</div></div>
He's being highly touted because a lot of non-american prospects didn't play many games and if they did, it was overseas thus being hard to see them as well as it being hard to get good video of them.
I'm not sure I'm allowed to put links in a thread, but try <a href="https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/topdownhockey/viz/NHLEquivalencyandProspectProjections/ProspectProjections" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">draft projections</a>clicking this, there is a guy who has been working on models like this where he tries to project how prospects would develop throughout their NHL careers. He gives them a % chance of playing in the NHL and % chance of becoming a star.
Power has a 97% of being an NHLer (200+ games) but only a 17% chance at being a star. And from watching him play at Michigan a bit, I'd say its fairly accurate. His size and skating ability will make him have a long NHL career, but his skill and decision making is average at best. He'll be a very good player, but not one I would pick with the first overall pick.
And to answer the question about the elite defencemen, I'd say Clarke has a better chance at becoming a legitimate top pairing guy
Just check it out and play around with it a bit, I find it really interesting because he has been pretty spot on with his predictions in the past!

Re-Signed Dougie and OEL Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlastnyFromThePastny</b></div><div>Fair enough, if Skjei is a sturdy Top 4 D + Bokk develops into a middle to top 6 player + one of those 2nd rounders turns into a player that contributes significantly over a few seasons (be it via trading the pick or drafting someone) then I'd say it'd be worth it. I think OEL is gonna be on the upswing on whatever new team takes him. (Especially a place like Carolina.) So I can see people declaring Zona the losers of any OEL trade 1 year from now.</div></div>
I just think that OEL-Pesce would be a nuts pairing, essentially creating a 1B pairing to match with the 1A Slavin-Hamilton pairing, and that any analytical criticism that people had with OEL in Arizona would vanish with (finally) an elite partner-in-crime. Also, no way would OEL not waive his NMC for Carolina.

Bad contract swap
You don't need to take back Lucic to dump Johnson. You could simply retain a little on Johnson and move him out. As someone who is a Oilers and Flames fan (yes we exist), I wouldn't want that contract even at 50% retained. He slows down whatever line you play him on, he isn't the team glue or leader people once thought he was, and his contract structure is the absolute worst (NMC and designed to be buyout proof). Trust me, you don't want lucic at anything over 1.5 million. I'd honestly rather have Matt Martin on my team at this point

Johnson's isn't awful. Maybe a 1,25 mil overpay but Lucic's overpaid by like 4 mil so COL rejects this

No reason to bring Kamenev back - they have plenty of young guys they can bring in; it just never worked with him. Jost is going to have to prove he can give them solid minutes as a two-way, bottom six guy before he gets that kind of money - I'd love to see him own that 4C or even 3C spot but we're going to have to see. Bowers isn't really playing center anymore - they found that he did much better on wing at the pro level.
