TBF, I did, relative to the pure UFA rate. I also expect Dougie to either be sign-and-traded or signed at a relative contender's discount (similar to Anders Lee with the Isles or any contract signed by Tampa or Boston in recent years). I don't see Carolina paying the full UFA price to Dougie.

Dougie's gotta REALLY like Carolina to take 1.4mil less than Pietrangelo did. I don't think you're signing Coleman because Dougie's gonna bug you to add at least half of that to his cap hit.

The OEL trade is tricky. In a way it does check off a lot of what ARI needs, multiple Dmen who can play now, a prospect from the 1st round and a couple of decent draft picks. On top of that, a lot of people see OEL's stock to have taken a sharp hit. So I'd say it's fair valuewise, but I'HATE that return if I was trading OEL.

No ones STOKED about Gardiner or Skjei (maybe Skjei), 2nd round picks are meh when trading your team's 8mil defenseman and another trade for Bokk seems likely to have a detrimental effect on his development and confidence.

honestly if Im Carolina hear me out. I would look at perusing a RD who is cheaper but basically is another Hamilton like guy.

I honestly wonder could a Dumba trade be worked out or something along those lines. Cause he has been linked to trade talks for years and I think Slavin-Dumba would be a nice pairing. Especially when you consider Dumba fits their price range

Skjei's play really rebounded with Pesce, especially on the penalty kill, where he was elite all season before the Tampa + Kucherov monster ate up the entire team. Gardiner, if the back surgery rumor is true, is a possible LTIRetirement. Skjei is worth a 1st based on his current play, and Bokk was a late 1st that's developing on-track, so the deal is essentially two 1sts and 2 2nds for OEL in terms of value.

Fair enough, if Skjei is a sturdy Top 4 D + Bokk develops into a middle to top 6 player + one of those 2nd rounders turns into a player that contributes significantly over a few seasons (be it via trading the pick or drafting someone) then I'd say it'd be worth it. I think OEL is gonna be on the upswing on whatever new team takes him. (Especially a place like Carolina.) So I can see people declaring Zona the losers of any OEL trade 1 year from now.

The Dougie re-signing is simply the ideal scenario if he's willing to take a contender's discount. Canes save a 1st round pick and can use the resources to either get Reinhart or OEL depending on the market.

I just think that OEL-Pesce would be a nuts pairing, essentially creating a 1B pairing to match with the 1A Slavin-Hamilton pairing, and that any analytical criticism that people had with OEL in Arizona would vanish with (finally) an elite partner-in-crime. Also, no way would OEL not waive his NMC for Carolina.

We would be open to trade him to CAR. That would be really cool since CAR has a great prospect pool. The only issue is that we need to do it before the EXD not to lose Dumba and CAR needs it after the EXD to be able to protect Bean

That’s just a lot of term to have in OEL. If Canes lose Hamilton I think I’d be more willing to go that route but if they have Hamilton for 6-7 years and OEL for 6-7 years realistically during the last half of those deals there play will fall off a cliff and it’ll cut the window short most likely. We’ll end up losing either Pesce or Slavin when they’re back up or somebody like Aho potentially. Just scares me.

I expect that Aho and Slavin are re-upped and that Turbo and Pesce are traded a year before their deals are up.
