<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>chopkins14</b></div><div><i>The idea of this was to try and make a Trouba trade work, since all accounts seem to be he's the guy Roy wants. If we have to move barrie, my preference for a replacement would be Sami Vatanen, but if we're going to get him there's really no point in not just keeping barrie. So to see this Trouba thing out.

First step was getting players attractive enough for Winnipeg to make an in-division trade. For Calgary to acquire an elite goalie, sam bennett is surplus to requirements for the flames and seems to be the going rate. Three years of certainty is why Calgary pulls the trigger on this deal instead of Ben Bishop, as he could walk after one. This also solves our two goalie problem for next year's expansion draft.

Bigras is a fun prospect, but also fits a bit into the 'too small' mentality Roy sees in some of our defenseman placing him in a bigras/bennett package for Trouba. That's a bit of an overpay for me, so we moved up 18 spots in the draft to #22 to even it out.

Now to move Barrie. The best place is clearly Edmonton, they have a strong desire to mix things up this offseason and a lot of attractive pieces. Barrie is worth more than the #4 in mine and most people's opinion, but the #33 in addition might be too steep. I'm not sure, possibly not. We also swapped out our bottom 6 center we don't want for a bottom pairing right shot defenseman Edmonton doesn't need anymore. This makes sense for both teams as edmonton will need a center that fits in the bottom 6 after they surely get rid of a top 6 center they have excess of (RNH).

I feel confident the Avs will find a way to rid themselves of Brad Stuart's contract, so we did that too. The rest of the signings are pretty self-explanatory.

These moves allow the Avs to field a competent team this year, and build more for their 'window' in coming years (plus buy time to see what we have in the rest of these 'core' guys Avs fans are tired of hearing about). If the goal is to win the stanley cup next year, things will go horribly wrong and set this thing back for years. But having the #4, #10, #22 and #33 in a solid draft can build up some organizational depth that's sorely lacking, and provide key pieces for the near future.

At #4 the Avs will surely take PierreLuc Dubois who will be a welcome addition to the top 6 in coming years. At #10 if they are fortunate enough for one of the top 3 dmen to fall great, if not i can see them using #33 to move up a spot or two from #10 to snag Sergachyov. With the boner Roy has for big defenseman, there's no way he'll pass up the opportunity for a Zadorov - Johnson, Sergachyov - Trouba top 4 to anchor this team in coming years. Now that he's got trouba in this fantasy, he may as well go all out to fill that top 4. #22 will probably see us take someone like Rubstov or whoever the biggest player left from the Q is, and #33, if not used to move up, would be a clever place to grab a Kyle Clague, etc.

Anyway, I feel like moving on from Barrie is a net-setback, but this is a reasonable way I can see it palatable.</i></div></div>
But you're completely under valuing Bennett and over valuing Varlamov. Bennett projects to be the Flames #2 center and he's 19... why would the Flames trade their best prospect for a goalie on the decline when they could trade nothing but picks and less talented prospects for MAF or Andersen. A 2nd rounder and a D prospect from Calgary would be the better option as the Flames are deepest on D.
