Nice. CBJ would be 2/3 the way to a chili line.
All that would be left to do would be to trade Montreal and get Riley Kidney.........then put Pinto, Kidney and Bean on the same line.

How about Jenner for Flower one for one? Or maybe Jackets throw in a pick or two? That might help speed up your rebuild a bit.

William Karlsson or Jonathan Marchesseault?
I don't like his cap hit, but Panarin would still garner some consideration.
In goal, Korpi would get the nod over Elvis at this moment in time.

Big Z Little z what begins with Z
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>On paper this makes sense, but I just don't think there's any way the Jackets win a Boqvist trade right now. He's looked like a really gifted offensive D-man when healthy, and that's much harder to find than a physical presence (which would be the entire right side). I'd much rather go for a Peeke-for-Zadorov swap, but I think CBJ is content to see what they have with so many new parts before making any changes.
I do like Danforth in for Mathieu, that 4th line could be solid. Tex is also extremely defensively responsible (more so than Ros), so I think the lineup works. We'll just have to see if Sillinger struggles out of the gate, because he might be best off starting in the AHL to get some confidence back.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>I totally respect your perspective. Boqvist has great potential and has shown undeniable flashes of brilliance as an offensive defenseman, and those players are indeed a precious commodity in the NHL. However, here's a counterpoint to consider: While Boqvist's offensive skills are exciting, the Blue Jackets have Werenski, Severson Provorov, Blankenburg and Bean who can all move the puck and contribute offensively, as well as Jiricek, Matechuck, Svozil and Ceulemans on the way. They might be facing a situation where they need to address their defensive presence as a whole rather than hang on to yet another offensive-minded dman.
Sometimes, it's not just about one player's talent but how the entire roster fits together. Moving Boqvist for a more physical presence, like Zadorov, could help bolster the team's defensive stability. As you mentioned, we have that on the right side with Peeke, Gudbranson, and maybe Blankenburg or Jiricek (I wouldn't consider Severson very physical), but there isn't really a physical precense on the left. Z and Provy are solid defenders, but Zadorov would put someone on that side who can really bang, and offers a big, familiar partner for Guddy to form a shutdown and penalty killing third pair with.
Your suggestion of a Peeke-for-Zadorov swap is interesting too. It might indeed be another way to address the need for physicality on the left side, but I think Calgary would require another asset to be included in that swap.
I agree that the lineup adjustments you mentioned, like Danforth and Tex, could add depth and defensive responsibility. And regarding Sillinger, player development is crucial. If he needs some time in the AHL to regain confidence, that might be the best path for his long-term growth. It's going to be very interesting to see how players compete for those center spots, and how Babcock manages that situation.</div></div>
Under this scenerio, i could see Jenner at 1C, Fantilli at 2C and Johnson moving over into 2LW position to start the season.
As good as Fantilli may be, I think Babs will go with Jenner so as to ease Fantilli into the 1C role.
As for Peeke vs Boqvist swap, I think Peeke is valued higher due to his size, heavy play, and shot blocking ability over Boqvist.
People knock on Peeke and trade him low on this site. But nobody seems to take into consideration he was slotted at 1RD with Werenski, and probably a bit too early to rely on there to be consistent night after night against other teams' top lines...and then Werenski went out for almost the whole season. And Merzlikens laid an egg in 2022-23.
Peeke slotted in at 2C or 3C across from Provorov or another solid D man will definitely do wonders for his game.
Smart money says Boqvist, Guds and Bean are on their way out of town in the near future with Blankenburg, Jiricek, Coulemans, Mateychuk etc. all on the way very soon.

Youth
I’m confused.
Sillinger was like a top 10 pick (okay, maybe #11 when AZ forfeited a pick a couple years ago)? He had a great rookie season and went through a sophomore slump. He still projects out as top 6 with a 2 way game and high compete level.
And Peeke is a big 2nd pair quality D man who eats lots of minutes in any situation, blocks a ton of shots and plays a fairly heavy game.
So why would CBJ sell low on both for a single 1st round pick? Probably in the 8-10 range? Is this 2 for 1 special sale day???
I’m fairly certain Jarmo could get a 1st and a 3rd for the two, and maybe even a prospect or another mid to high pick for the both.

A defensive 2nd line
Somehow I get the sense that Blankenburg will find his way in the lineup ahead of Gudsy.
Voronkov, Sillinger & Chinakov probably do start the year in Cleveland since they are waivers exempt.
I would expect to see all 3 early enough when injuries start to kick in, and Voronkov has the size, grit and a bigger ceiling than Olivier, I'm hoping he has a Johnson/Marchenko kind of year.
The biggest lament I have is Elvis and that contract. I just cannot see him being the "long term" guy, even with a better team in front of him.
It will be fun watching things play out during camp.

I like this deal from the Jackets side, but would counter with removing the Calgary 4th and adding a top 5 protection on the 1st. Or an extended Lindholm for no 1st protection.

FANTILLIS ROOKIE STATS AND DEPTH CHART
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>You're comparing Fantilli to Slaf or any pick from last year's draft? That's your first issue.
Thinking the Blue Jackets have a terrible team because they finished 31st last year is your next one. I'm not trying to say they should've been cup contenders, but they should have at least been competing for a playoff spot. They were decimated by injuries and horribly coached. They've significantly improved the defense, coaching and center ice this offseason as well. If you were able to look at this roster without your Leafs glasses on, you'd see they have a lot of high-end talent. some crazy good prospects, and a good balance of toughness too.
The idea that you think Fantilli would be "rushed" onto an NHL roster is laughable. If you can't see or understand that he is an NHL ready talent, then there is nothing I can do for you. Just watch more hockey and hopefully someday you'll understand how players differ from each other.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>You need to chill bud. So you are saying the top 5 picks from last year are all no good? None of them are in the league. Time will tell - I think Fantilli will struggle like pretty much all young players would if you jump from college freshman to nhl. And Columbus will not be in the playoffs - long way to go yet</div></div>
Okay, so you both have salient points.
On the one hand, the Jackets have been known to rush prospects into the lineup, mostly in earlier years when their roster lacked bona fide skill/talent and they had very mediocre scouting, which put even more “pressure” on getting the young guns up and into games to prove themselves.
That being said, all of the NHL scouts, analysts, etc. have projected Bedard, Fantilli and Carlson to be NHL ready this year. Smart money says he plays from day one. And I think Babs will help put him in the right spot in the lineup for his development, similar to what Torts would do.
So how about let’s bury the hatchet, agree to disagree, and move on with our next posts?

I remember Nash well. He was a very patient guy, to a fault.
He would hang out on the TV timeout dot near the center red line to cherry pick outlet pass or wait for play to come back up ice.
Unfortunately, he treated his own defensive blue line like a huge crack in the ice...like it would cave in and he would sink to the bottom of the pond...so he really never saw the inside of his D zone.

Not a bad prediction.
I was really starting to doubt Foudy and Bemstrom, thinking they both needed change of scenery (i.e. clear out some space for upcoming prospects).
But Foudy did seem to find a bit of scoring toward the last 1/3 of last season.
I REALLY would love to see Kuraly between Texier and Danforth. That line could do some serious damage and really get some agitation going in short order.
The big question is whether the D will improve enough.
Even with Provorov and Severson (and a healthy Werenski)...the sponge we have in Elvis and the youth of the Forward group who have not yet learned to play the 200 ft North American game (Marchenko, Chinakov, Laine, etc) may still be a problem.

Not so fast.
Isn’t Fantilli committed to UM for 2023-24?
I agree Bemstrom needs a fresh start.
Also Foudy, while his stock is a bit higher due to how he finished 2022-23 season.
Boqvist maybe. He is better than Bean and Guds, but oft hurt.
Robinson is quality 4th liner with Kuraly and Texier.
I don’t see need for Olivier, just cause he can fight.
Roslovic will be needed for center depth until Fantilli AND Sillinger proves that they are fully developed and ready for the day to day rigors of the NHL (while very inconsistent and weak early in the season but much better later on…keep in mind Roslovic does somewhat better in faceoffs, defensively, and setting up his wingers).

I am liking the idea of trading for an extended Lindholm more & more, as this is more of a long term solution.
Hayes is a temporary fix and not as good.
I do think it would take at least a 1st in 2024 or 2025 rather than a 2nd, and maybe even an additional asset like Foudy or Bemstrom, who have been passed on the depth chart by Marchenko & Johnson & Chinakhov

Even on a final year contract, the Jackets would need to add at a minimum another decent pick (2nd or 3rd rounder or so) and a decent young player or prospect (Matechyk, Peeke, Boqvist, Bean) to land Lindholm, but in return would need a signed extension prior to the trade (similar to Provorov deal).

It’s funny. So many BlueJackets fans thought it was Torts.
Now we’re not so sure. PLD sure seems to be a bigger baby than Laine. If he can’t play where he wants, he brings everybody else down with him.
I’d love to see him finally land in Montreal and then still end up tanking their locker room too.

unfortunately, this year is make or break for Elvis.
If he has another year like last, with a much improved D in front of him, his value would be so far in the negative, it would cost too much to move him, they would probably have to buy him out, which is always a very tough pill for Jarmo to swallow.

In this case, you’ll get 0% of a crap CBJ demand like that.
I’m kinda surprised you didn’t put Marchenko in there too.
Goalies do not get anywhere near that kind of return in this league. Heck the CBJ let Bob walk instead of paying him what he wanted. Sabataging their future on albeit very good but aging goalie and D man is not happening.

I could see Anaheim flipping their board after worlds and take Leo. He kinda reminds me of Selanne in his ability to drive the play, vision and passing abilities, and making those around him more dangerous. This fits Anaheims style.
Either way, Leo or Fantilli, the Jackets are looking very good with young forwards in Marchenko, Johnson, Sillinger, & Texier. Chinakov is a wild card - the jury is still out on him. He may just have a slow learning curve like Foudy.
