Scraps engvall and mikheyev are not traded for valuable assets
pittsburgh says no. malkin is out atleast half the year, blueger is too valuable. also, he's worth 3x the salary youre paying him.

For fun
I like the trades, detroit could easily flip rust for a couple picks, maybe a 1st. It could work if you put bertuzzi with crosby, AA is not 1st line material. seattle would probably take blueger over ZAR and he's worth double what you paid him. Malkin is out atleast half the season, pit will probably bring back gaudreau, but still we need another center with blueger likely gone.

Seattle Trade
Seattle would take blueger over ZAR and blueger is worth more then 1.5 anyways. I think Rinne is toast and desmith is more valuable at this point.
The petterson and zucker trades are interesting.

Guentzel Trade

Not hard to imagine reality. Jake has better stats across the board, and is on a steal of a contract at 6mil for 3 more years. He's improved each year, over a ppg for the past 2 seasons, while MT has regressed in scoring the past 2 seasons and is looking for 8.5+ next contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Why would the penguins add in moving a 40 goal scorer?
This is another case of under rating a 40 goal guy and over valuing your own guy.
At best this would be an even swap. But truth is CGY adds. a down year for Jake is a career year for MT</div></div>
Jake has probably reached his peak already in scoring, but I still agree, his value is higher and his contract is a steal. I'd be more interested in Brady, league leader in hits and shots, thats super impressive.

The Flyers are going backwards, the Rangers are still too soft on D. The pens will finish higher then those 2. The metro will be Carolina, NYI, and either Washington or Pitt finishing 3rd. The Atlantic will be Tampa, Toronto, Boston. Montreal and Florida will regress next year and one of them misses the playoffs.

If i was GM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>I doubt St. Louis does that even with out adding the pick. They’d be just trading a defenseman they can’t protect for a forward they can’t protect. I agree that Zucker has value, but not that much value.
As for the Letang trade, under what rock are you living to believe Letang has fallen off at all? The guy just put up one of his better seasons and was ELITE! He finished top 10 in Norris. And now you replace that hole with 2 guys that are bottom pair at best. That defense is getting exposed big time. The only reason the pens would ever trade Letang is if they are tanking or if by the deadline they are nowhere close to a playoff spot. And the fact you retain and don’t even get quality back for no retention is crazy and mind boggling. To think Zucker gets the same, if not a better return than retained Letang is just mind boggling.
The Pettersson trade doesn’t make sense for the kings or Pens really. The kings don’t really need another 2nd pair LD. They need a guy that can be a top pair. The pens don’t need a guy that’s been a bust and late picks. They could probably get a better deal elsewhere.</div></div>
I agree, Letang is still playing at an elite level, and carrying the defense. They won't trade him unless another bonafide #1 is coming back, and even then, Crosby has earned the right to play out his final years with his buddy Letang. IF Malkin and Letang take discounts on their next contracts, they might even be able to extend the window with some smart acquisitions. Basically, hes not going anywhere.

That's simply not true, Zucker is a proven top 6 wing. he didn't fit with Crosby or Malkin, but not everyone does. He's still good for 20/50 and worth the cap hit on the right team. Seattle will 100% snatch him if he's exposed. IMO he's worth atleast a 2nd and a B prospect, or perfect for a change of scenery hockey trade.

Defensive changes and more physicality
I don't think coleman is going to sign here, unless its a short term deal, and he will probably get more $ somewhere else if he goes for the highest bidder.
zucker is worth more then a 4th and 6th, pens could atleast get a 2nd and mid tier prospect.
preds decline, they could get a 1st + for ekholm from half the league.

someone would give up 2 2nds for zucker, if not montreal.
thats alot to pay seattle, instead of just letting them take blueger.
would have to sweeten that deal alot to get wood.

a big gamble
it is a gamble for sure and probably an overpay. ideally we could save that 2nd for a deadline pickup. Rust is worth a 1st+ so maybe that is enough. OEL is a proven top pairing guy and exactly what we need for one last run. the 6 years doesnt scare me, because after this upcoming season, malkin, and letang become 35+ ufas, and will not be worth their next contracts. Crosby will no longer be able to carry the team on his back, and we will need a major rebuild anyways.

contracts for 2020 FA
these are just contract predictions/ what i think each player is worth. imo, schultz won't be back, murray and simon will be traded in the offseason. galch will either sign with a bottom feeder for a 2 year deal in the 3-4 range or he'll play for a contender on a one year prove it deal at 2 mil, and it probly won't be the pens.

deadline targets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>Granlund hasn’t been a 60 pt player in 2 years. You can’t say he’s worth something when he hasn’t hit that point total in 2 years, yet say Schultz isn’t worth a decent return when he hasn’t been “good” in 2 years. Especially when one of those years he was injured and still was over .5 points per game while playing a decent amount with an anchor in JJ. Also, Schultz is only 29.
Secondly, top 4 RHD aren’t a dime a dozen like middle 6 wingers.
3rd teams always overpay for defense, especially top 4 RHD at the deadline.</div></div>
it's TRUE, granlund has underwhelmed, and my point is.. so has schultz, he really only had one good year. schultz has shown me that he isnt a true top 4d. he needs to be sheltered as a bottom pairing pp specialist role. hes disappointed in his play during a contract year, which is concerning. granlund has for whatever reason not fit in Nashville, but he has a more consistent history of success than schultz imo. classic change of scenery trade.

deadline targets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>A 1st and Hallander for just over a year of Edler? Why would you do that
The Kings are looking to get picks and young prospects. Swap out Simon for a younger expansion draft exempt B prospect and that would probably get you Toffoli.</div></div>
edler solidifies the top4 and a late 1st isnt getting much better. hallander for the salary retention, I dont think hes going to be anything special. for the kings I picked simon because hes due for a raise we cant afford and will be moved regardless.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>The only trade both teams do is the buffalo trade. Pens maybe do the kings trade but I don’t see the Kings do it. The Nashville trade is just absolutely terrible for the pens. Granlund has been bad for Nashville. Schultz could get atleast a 1st at the deadline whereas Nashville might not take much to get rid of Granlund. And no way am I doing one of the better prospects and a 1st for edler just to get rid of Bjugstad. I’d probably just do Bjugstad and a mid round pick for edler w/o retention if I was desperate. Which I’m not.</div></div>
schultz hasn't been very good in two years now and I disagree about him being worth a 1st especially as a rental. granlund has been bad for the preds but hes not too far removed from being a 60 point winger in Minnesota and still only 27.

bold moves for this year and expansion
Matt Murray has consistently shown to be a top 5 goalie in the NHL, and has taken over playoff series in consecutive cup wins. He has also shown to have had a few poor stretches. What he has going for him is, he is still only 25 and most elite goalies don't peak until 28+. Last year, he showed he could bounce back from a poor stretch by dominating the NHL from January on. He could end up being Cam Ward or he could find consistency and be a top 10 goalie every year. Edmonton is showing they are a contender when they get solid goaltending, but when smith and koskinen's play started dropping, so did Edmonton in the standings. They have a shot this year the way mcdavid and draisaitl are playing. these guys are both putting up career years and they would be wise to go for it this year.
