Quoting: Dragongrave

You're not getting Landeskog for Muzzin. They want a package and you give them ONE player.

You are over the cap this year and next year and only have $17M to sign 11 players 2 years from now.

I love how people make all these trades and swaps and don't focus on their cap beyond ONE YEAR. It shows you don't care or know much.

1. At the TDL this year, GM Joe Sakic was quoted as asking for 'a top-level defenseman, a first-round draft pick plus'. (Source Link: http://www.thehockeynews.com/rumors/article/rumor-roundup-is-sakic-asking-too-much-for-duchene-and-landeskog) So, after a subpar year (33 points), the price would be lowered considerably. I'm fine if you want to swap out the 2018 2nd into a 2019 1st, and also fine if a complementary piece was added.

2. The salary cap is projected to be at $75.5-$76 million depending on negotiations. (Source Link: http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1249130-nhl-salary-cap-could-increase-to-76m-in-2017-18) So of course, I made my team with that in mind. Should the cap stay stagnant, I would not have signed Martin Hanzal and would opt for Brian Boyle instead.

3. Brown would probably be bought out, saving $4 million in the process. Add in a conservative cap rise ($78 million) and the team will have more wiggle room.
