Post Burakovsky
I'm not an AJF fan at all, but I don't love Stephenson much either. AJF I think could be just as useful, as they have the same qualities (really fast straight line speed, game leans a lot more to a two-way style, PKing potential), but AJF might be able to bring more feistiness.
Stephenson looked like he knew no one was coming for his spot last year. That has to change.

affordable bottom 6 with some tenacity
I like Hartman a lot (if he's cheap - we'll need to outbid Dallas and maybe others) and I think Tanev is probably going to get a stupid contract from someone the more I think about it (I could see 3 million).
Hershey guys are going to be utilized. While I think Caps do get a bottom 6 wing externally, I think they believe a few guys could contribute, namely Pinho, Malenstyn, or Gersich. That's what trading Burakovsky for economic relief was so crucial.

I think Johansen has been passed over in the organization, but I completely agree. Toronto is 100% strapped and needs to shed cash. There is zero reason to even offer a high prospect.
If they want one of bottom tier ones, go for it.

I think we could let him try with certain lineups. I would absolutely not bet on him being penciled in there though, and I fully intend GMBM to get someone they like.

That's IMO an excellent haul for Burakovsky. I don't care that Johansson was a rental, Burakovsky shouldn't get more.

UFAs - Can we buy a cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildwinswhen</b></div><div>Do Dzingel and Nyquist want longer term? Usually players at their age want shorter terms to get a higher contract in their next UFA period. It's generally the teams wanting to give longer term at their age.
Maybe do need a higher AAV on Dzingel.</div></div>
They want 6 or 7 year deals. Nyquist will be 30 and just scored 20 points more than his usual 40 or so points. He's a consistent point scorer but he's in the middle of his prime. He wants to cash in. Dzingel is just entering his prime and had a career year, he too will want to lock up.
Both guys are going to be paid more than they're worth.

Nice try. Short of Chinese Black Magic, Dzingel is getting more AVV and term, and Nyquist will get longer term as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>Way too much and too long for Tanev. Why is everyone obsessed with him? He's a 4th liner. I'd much rather keep Bura who has a much better skill set.</div></div>
He's a bottom 6 guy for sure, but he's excellent at what he does. He's as tenacious a forward can possibly be in today's NHL and has tremendous speed. His puck skills are improving too.
Get over term, it literally doesnt matter for guys below age 35 or making low dollar amounts. GMBM doesn't care about term it shows in the contracts he gives out. Good GMs will find a way as long as the AVV isn't horrible.

Well he can start on the 4th line. I think the days of having your 4th line be regulated to checking only are over. If you need a shutdown line, that 3rd line is pretty nasty I think with Tanev and Hagelin possession wise.

He may make more on the open market, but I don't necessarily Jets sign him for that term for double his cap hit. I always thought he was attractive to Winnipeg because he was pretty cheap. And they now have a lot of RFAs to sign.
You may be right though. The UFA market, IMO, might be tougher on guys like Tanev because of the lower cap ceiling.

By your logic Brett Connelly should have been terrible also.m but coming to dc saved his career.</div></div>
It took Brett Connolly his 3rd year to be worth anything serious. People were clamoring last offseason to upgrade him!
All those guys, besides Yak, were also better pros than Poolparty is now. Watch the guy play, he's legit bad. He needs a lot of time in the AHL.

Poolparty is actively bad at hockey right now. Everyone gets that right? He's A LOT worse than Burakovsky, particularly 2nd half of 2018-2019 Burakovsky. Just keep that in mind, because it's kind of crazy how many proposals have Burakovsky going for a worse player.
Good Poolparry BE better? I guess, but we're contending right now.

They didn't qualify because I believe his arbitration starting point is high for what he is (I believe $2.5 million). His qualifying offer was $940k I believe, but most likely wanted more and would 100% go to arbitration.
That's why. He's a good 4th Line guy with potential to move up to the 3rd.

I get it. I just think that's not great value for a Vezina winning goalie who is a year away from winning a Cup.
You're also asking for Copely to get a lot more starts because Rittich hasn't proven he can go more than 45 games.
This is all risk for Sam Bennett and some 4th liners.

Quality for quantity trades very rarely work out for the team dealing the quality. It's very unusual. The truth is dealing Orlov would realistically make this team worse for the next two years and this is the team's only window really.
I truly think the likely move is GMBM dealing draft or prospect currency for a short term impact guy like Kreider. I don't see him moving any more guys like Orlov or Holtby because it would be too detrimental.

It'll end up being a really good contract towards the end of it, and Vrana will be in the midst of his prime years then. He could easily be a 30 goal scorer for us that we have on the books for a low % of the cap while we're retooling our team.</div></div>
We all want more term. Fans and the FO. But Vrana and his reps want a bridge. I don't see him getting anything more than 3 years.
