A lot honestly isn't. But guys like Hagelin, Panik, Hathaway, Orlov, and Kempny will probably be moved while McMichael, Leason, Alexeyev, Fehervary, and Hobbs will probably be competing for vital positions. Not to mention guys like Gersich, Malenstyn, AJF, Protas, Sutter, Geisser will all have developed a lot and will be competing for bottom line/pairing spots. Tons of small salary shedding can happen in the next two years.
Fishman and Mac are a great team. I have zero concern in 2 years.

Tom Wilson is as close to untradable as it gets unless we're rebuilding. Guy is monumentally critical to what this team does so well.
The rest of the trades are horrendous. The Holtby trade is something else.

There's no reason to move Orlov this year. Next year I 100% get with Fehervary and Alexeyev getting time in AHL and being ready. But giving him up now makes the team weaker.

2020-21 with 84M cap spoiler alert theres plenty of cap space
I think Ovechkin and Backstrom actually get raises. Ted wants them rewarded for all the tough times in the playoffs and being THE guys of the franchise. I truly believe both get slight raises (OV probably 10 million for 4 years, Backstrom 8 million for 6).

I would be fine with this. I think org thinks Fehervary is ready right now, this second, to be an NHLer. They aren't going to say that publically, but I think his level of competition plus how hes improved plus his incredible tools (his game speed and acceleration already are better than any prospect Caps have had in years) add up to him being super close.
Djoos is solid, but if he somehow thinks he deserves more, I don't think Caps blink.

20-21 is a big off-season for the Caps
I don't believe it will require that term or AVV for Backstrom. He has said often how he loves playing here and being part of the organization. I think if the Caps were still Cup-less, the temptation to go elsewhere is greater. Because despite being quiet, I think Backstrom intensely wants to win and lead a winning culture. But he has a Cup and he still has as good a chance as anywhere else to win. He is beloved and respected here by everyone, top to bottom.
Ted (and by extension GMBM) WILL do whatever it takes to resign Nick. But I don't think it will require anything above a year term (takes him to 39), and a healthy inflation ($8 million seems fair). If Nick's agent came and said "Look, there's a 7 year, 9 million offer. Can you match it?", the Caps say yes before the sentence is finished. I just don't think that happens. I honestly think an extension is coming in August.

I Want More
I'm a big Faksa fan, and I think he's one of the more true underrated players in the league. I like him better than Eller probably, even though Faksa did not have a good growth year at all.
But I have real concerns about losing him in a year. Eller is locked up on a fair contract for four years. While this helps us cost wise this year, long term it does not financially. I don't think Faksa signs for $3.5 IF he has a good year (40+ points I'd expect, which if he continues developing he should).
It's a gamble with a small payoff. There is literally no one in the system ready next year to take on 3C duties.

I still think you need Compher to step up enough that he can play RW on the 1st line. Otherwise, the Law of Diminishing Returns is still in full effect.
I think Colorado has POTENTIALLY a very potent forward group. It really hinges on Jost and Compher.

You have a GM that thinks Brandon ****ing Tanev can be a 2nd line winger. These moves are far too competent for Rutherford.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>no problem with it at all. There is serious inflation in salaries. That deal will be nothing in 2 years when the TV contract and an expansion team are entered into the league.
Furthermore, he was brought in to hit people. Which he does well. That lets them shed a player like JJ, who was the teams leading hitter last year.
I'd much rather have Tanev than JJ. which is what it equates to.</div></div>
Watching people try to talk themselves into thinking the Penguins are making acceptable moves is painful. The short term direction of the team is in absolute free fall.

Secondary Scoring3RW4th Line Wingers
The market on Tanev is strange. He's a quality bottom 6 winger but he doesn't score a ton. I could see him making anywhere form $2 to $3.5. He's very comparable to Roussel last year.
I could totally see GMBM offering more term to being down the AVV. I think it would still cost $2.5 mil or so probably.
I would take Connor Brown in a second for that but I don't think Toronto retains any. Might be too tight.

Pirri is awful defensively and it's exactly why he has trouble sticking despite getting goals. I highly doubt he produces what Connolly does in the same spot and he's worse defensively, and Connolly was not good at all defensively. Is he worth a shot on the 4th? Probably yeah.
I like Hartman a lot as a cheap option. But there sounds like a few teams are interested (Wild, Dallas, probably more) that might make him more expensive than he's worth.
I think trying to replace Connolly's offensive production is probably impossible, so I'd still like someone who is simply better at other things and can still contribute some offense. Tanev does that.

I don't think there's a lot available that won't be priced out. Connolly is better offensively than Simmonds, Ferland, Donskoi, and they're all going to probably cost more than 4 million. None of those guys are seriously being targeted.

How much offense do you need if you're a two way forward. He hit 14 goals last year playing with Lowry. I think heb could put up similar numbers.
GMBM wants a two-way guy. Tanev brings a ton of value besides goals.

Tanev is a hard guy to nail down, AVV wise. I've seen anywhere from 1.75 to 3.5 million. I think your ballpark is about realistic.
I personally would love Tanev. He is one of the most tenacious forwards in the league and he has elite speed. A Hagelin-Eller-Tanev line may not score a lot, but it's going to terrorize people with that speed on the wings. Pretty nasty if you ask me.
You don't have to read between the lines much with GMBM. If he says he wants a two-way forward for the 3RW spot, he's going to aggressively pursue that. As a long as it doesn't turn nuts with bidding, Tanev is probably the guy.

I think Pierre-Oliver Jospeh is a fantastic prospect. He's years away though. Could look back and really applaud this trade.
Short term this a horrible trade and reeks of Rutherford doing what he always does after a few years. Chuck is nowhere near Kessel's level offensively and is probably worse defensively. Brutal.
