On what Earth does Travis Boyd get $1.75M / year? He's a struggle to make NHL minimum and I cannot see him as even an every day 4th liner!

Also...Backie needs a raise. and I can see a well structured contract for him at 6 years x $7.5M up to retirement. And a similar aging-Ovi deal where he takes 6 x $8M (yes, a decrease) and he drops to 2nd / 3rd lines progressively to retire in DC (he better or people will riot).

I think Ovechkin and Backstrom actually get raises. Ted wants them rewarded for all the tough times in the playoffs and being THE guys of the franchise. I truly believe both get slight raises (OV probably 10 million for 4 years, Backstrom 8 million for 6).

I honestly believe that Ovi does not care about a raise. He knows when his contract was doled out it was one of the biggest / longest in NHL history. He's been near the top of the pay scale and all he wanted was to win. He wants to stay in DC, to complete his legacy as a Capital...he will take $8.8M (haha the 8's...) for 5-6 more years and go out and break Gretzky's record. Backie will get a raise into $8M top center price range too...and that will carry them to the old folks home together.
