You have been saying you don't want Gusev and people are overvaluing but you would rather have Staal @ 6 & Toffoli @ 4.6 (10.6), instead of Bjugs @ 4.1 & Gusev @ 4 (8.1)???</div></div>
The Tofolli trade was more of going after someone who is also in a contract year that would take less to get as there was more cap space to work with after the other trades and we probably won't NOT spend to the cap. Having Staal until he's 34 isn't bad at all for what he brings, it's worth more having that type of defensive forward that can still play 19-20min a night over Bjugstad who is only meh imo, but sure, I would take Gusev at 4mil over Tofolli, but I think he gets more. I'll make another with that, but this is actually going off of past interest, that might not be there any more, but Rutherford drafted Faulk and was the one to trade for Staal.

Yes, that's what I'm alluding to. I don't think Jordan Staal is in their long term plans, and they have an amazing young defesive group that Faulk is going to get phased out of, hence why he's been shopped recently.

More than the effort to trade for Ghost is that he plays exceptionally better on his off-side being a left shot it would go against Sully wanting the proper handedness in his d-combos

Possibly not, but that's better reasoning than trying to say Schultz is a bottom four dman like that other chump lmao

RHD is more valuable than LHD. Add that to the fact that a 2nd/3rd liner is being thrown in along with a 2nd I think makes it a lot closer than you think. Maybe it’s not there but it’s a website from an armchair gm, not a real trade deal.</div></div>
I don't even know what this "PittsburG" is he speaks of
Edit: Their top pair right-d at this exact moment is Josh Manson hahahahahaha, yeah, you would most certainly value Schultz and he would easily be your top pair RHD

I edited this slightly. There was a significant amount of cap space, and while we have a habit of trading away 1st rounders, I think we could snag Tofolli in a contract year as a rental along with dumping Johnson with Simon on them for a 1st thrown their way, would fit nicely.

Schultz is most dertainly not a "bottom 4" dman. He is very clearly top four and will get paid as such. Bjugstad can easily be your 2nd line center, just take a loko at your depth chart, you practically have no centers with Kesler on supposed LTIR you need him. The only reason he's a 3C here is because of Sid and Geno. That's more than a fair package. Willingness to move is one thing, but your reasoning is not good at all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>I’ve always said the pens should take the chance on Zaitsev for the right price.
It’s definitely an interesting take though</div></div>
THANK YOU. I know his numbers aren't good, but really, they're comparable to Schultz's with the Oilers. Babcock was currently taking him off the ice when they'd take play into the offensive-zone and from everything I've seen, he's extremely potent (potentially or at least in Russia) as a puck mover/shooter. I think he would fit here very well in the same way Schultz did, and if he were? My god that'd be ana amazing contract. Again, I know it's risky but to get that term for only $4.5 if he clicks on someone who COULD actually take that 2RHD spot when we can't really re-sign Schultz? It'd be amazing. I certainly don't feel safe with Johnson or Gudbranson in that spot. Spot on with the rest, and definitely some tinkering could be done, but I really do think we should target him and Lindholm and have a bit more of a future-looking sight. We obviously want to win now, but we can't cripple ourselves this eyar and especially next when we can't re-sign Schultz, Murray, Galchenyuk, Kahun, and McCann. We need to be proactive.

I doubt Gudbranson gets moved unless it is a <strong>very</strong> Pens friendly deal, which wouldn't happen unless the other GM is high.</div></div>
Yeah, realistically, I dpn't see this roster happening even though it would suit our style way more. However, I do see Johnson getting moved over Gudbranson.

I very much so believe our defense needs improved over our offense. Any decline in offensive production has been due to signing bad defensemen that were valued for toughness (Johnson and Gudbranson) over their puck moving. Lindholm is obviously a top tier talent, and like I said Zaitsev is a bit of a gamble but has some wheels under him and if nothing else does very well with breakout passes. Our offense actually looks good to my liking. I'm not a fan of Rust but I think keeping him would be wise if we can dump Johnson for only a pick without needing to include him. Galchenyuk hopefully becomes Malkin's version of Guentzel. Hornqvist needs back on the top line to produce for his worth. Kahun I think is an underrated return for Maatta. McCann is a natural center. Tanev should be an amazing 3LW albeit slightly overpaid. Our 4th line is fast and youthful.
Our defense imo is thoroughly upgraded and has amazing depth, but for as much as I'm hearing good things about Jospeh, who knows if he'll be ready. I mean he could very easily earn a spot over Riikola who has been serviceable but not outstanding.
Edit: Could also remove Simon from the trade, add a third on our side or make it straight up, and then have Johnson be our 13th.

Logical Retool
Already getting the trolls out of the woodwork I see...probably someone who also posts on here trading Letang or Malkin. Maatta has faced a lot of injuries, he had a bad year sure, but more recently has only been a scratch because of the sheer depth we have added on defense this year. You don't just come back from injury and get shoved back into your top/second pair minutes and role without issue. This shouldn't, and doesn't, take away from Maatta's skill, youth, cup-winning pedigree, and probably most important - his term left on his contract. Frankly, you'd be stupid to not take that trade, and I've probably unnecessarily exhausted my time and brain cells responding to your condescending comment.

Thread:
Three-Peat
Basic Description:
Playing around with what the roster would look like for a three-peat assuming we go for the back to back this year, and then there will be a lot of cap space either through Kuni and Duper being off the books or freeing it up in trades. I think the trades are believable as if the Landeskog rumors are true Maatta should basically fetch him himself, but if that's not the case, I sweetened up the deal with Fehr for cap space as well and swapping a third for a second. Gotta give to get as it's their captain after all. Now, this trade would only take place if we can secure another D first in a trade involving Fleury. This trade would involve trading for a veteran goalie as the Stars have two goalies they're paying premium for not quality goaltending, they would want to have a number one guy. Fleury could provide this to them and we would get the goalie that we can leave unprotected (which Niemi wouldn't actually be on the roster for this year, it's just to show the trade, but we would have Jarry solidly backup Murray at almost 3 mil cheaper under the cap (projected to raise from the 73 mil of this year anyways).
Lines:
This first line would obliterate the NHL....no further description needed except Landy would realize his potential here and on this line.
The second line has already been shown to work and has two of our best wingers with Geno instead of sticking him with fourth liners like Rust.
This third line would be something special, in my mind it would be as potent as the triplets line was in Tampa their breakout year with the amount of speed, youth, and talent here.
The fourth line would miss the god-send that was Matt Cullen but Sundqvist has been tearing up the AHL and would be an excellent fourth line center for two effective depth wingers.
The top pairing would consist of Daley returning for a couple years to partner with Letang as they've shown to play well together already.
Dumoulin would hopefully click well with the new Penguin for a long time shut down pair.
Getting the last year out of Cole before he goes and Bengtsson was rumored to want to break into the NHL this year let alone next, him or Prow are supposed to be great prospects.
Murray/Jarry would easily be the best and most cost effective goalie tandem.
So that's my rant, hope you guys like it and agree! :)

Finishing Up
Lovejoy sucks, there's no way around that. And yes, in this scenario moving him is needed to let Dumoulin play otherwise the scrub would be blocking him. That extra million or so gives us some cap space as to not have to play 5 Dmen if there's injuries.
You can't go and get forward depth and then say "hey we don't need this depth let's use that to trade for a dman" that's counterproductive. He is the odd man out of the top six but that's amazing forward depth to have pushed your top line wingers down to the third in a matter of two years which is what they were planning to do with those contracts in the first place. His cap hit is big for a third line winger but so is Dupuis' who hasn't really played the last two years so Kunitz should get the same BOTD that he does. Plus we nkow those cap hits will come off the books as we're giving our young D raises in a couple years and it'll work out. We would be selling Kunitz at his lowest value as well when stats show he was doing just fine before injury give him another chance. The extra additions are addressing forward depth something that is acheived along with Kunitz not to replace him as they're both centers which leads into your lineup here...
Top six is fine I would swap RWs but yes Plotnikov should be penciled in there we brought him in the play with Malkin I have no idea why so many place him on the fourth line. Fehr can/will/did play RW but I believe him and Bonino will be bottom 6 centers and whoever gets third line duty will be determined in camp. Bennett (who fucking sucks) over Duper for third line? hahahaha And Sheary is a LW and I would place him on 4LW and send down Wilson, we want four scoring lines.
