You’d have to add a first or a second first level prospect to be able to add Anderson by himself to interest Calgary.

Buffalo likely is shopping Mitts, but I think it’s more doing due diligence. Personally, I think it would be best to move him now because his cap hit for the remainder of the year makes him very attractive to playoff teams, and the simple fact is, the Sabres are going to have to eventually pay JJ and Quinn, and tying up millions into Mitts may not be the best move for the longer term cap health when you also have several young centers coming up.
So, yes hes being shopped, and won’t be stunned if he’s traded, but what I don’t believe is that hes being shopped for a #1 goalie. Goaltending is not the problem right now.

Could he be a 1C
I would do something around Mittelstadt and Jokiharju for Middleton and one of their center prospects like Marat or Heidt, or maybe the winger Olhmgren, and maybe a second which for Minny will be top four.
For the record, I value Middleton as a first round pick, he’s a big top four defenseman with size and grit and has filled that role nicely since coming over from San Jose.
If the Sabres move Mitts, it’s likely going to be for immediate roster help, and they need a big physical defenseman on the back end, and Middleton has a year left on his deal as well before UFA and it makes sense there. I know he’s a lefty, but this team doesn’t care about right left and a lot of their D are versatile enough to play off hand. It’s the type of guy they need.
The valuation for Mitts is similar to Reinhart, a first and a prospect.
Krebs honestly has very little value at this point. He’s likely worth a second at best maybe a third and is a reclamation project. It would be a sell low to just throw im in here. Krebs I think is better served as a sweetener in another trade.
There is a Don Granato connection from the Blackhawks, but I doubt Hartman is waiving
Also, Minnesota is only 5 out of a wildcard, so it will be interesting to see what they do if they get close. Mittelstadt is a player they can afford this year. It may be a long shot that they’d do any buying, but they have a chance

cmon do something
If Colorado is offering Bowen Byram, and a first, I’m taking that and running. I know we need a right D, but Byram is a young cheap, highly talented defenseman with team control.
Buffalo doesn’t really care about righty lefty, and all three of their top defenseman can play on their offside if needed.
But, if Colorado is doing this, they likely do it because they think Casey Mittelstadt is the missing piece. Mitts is a rental here, but he’s still young and signed to a bargain contract that Colorado can easily fit in. He’s 25 years old on pace for 68 points.
I think Colorado would love to have him, but not sure they want to part with Byram to make it happen.

Shake-Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Minnesota trade is overkill.</div></div>
Probably, but I like what Middleton brings to the table with the grit and physicality. Duhaime is just a throw in, but he’s another guy we can throw in for the penalty kill and will drop the gloves and give a high effort. Both guys will do that, something, we need more of.
Samuelsson and Power are both struggling this year, we definitely need some more help on the blue line, and I think Middleton is a highly underrated defenseman. He also has one more year of term left. If Minnesota decided to trade him, they will get a lot for him given the shallow market for defenseman outside of Calgary.
I don’t want to part with any firsts right, but Krebs doesn’t have value he once did. We’ve turned him into a fourth line defensively responsible center, but he may intrigue another team as a young roster player to tap into upside. Ostlund would be the centerpiece here. I’m sorry to say but we have five million young forward prospects, one of them needs to be moved. I think it’s appropriate for a top four defenseman with size and grit.
Not to mention, we will likely have yet another top ten pick this year.
A side not as well, Middleton doesn’t have a no trade clause, which makes his value even higher.
The theme I’m going for by adding Middleton and Kastelic ( and Duhaime, although he’s a UFA) is adding size and grit and trying to raise compete with term, and hoping Minnesota would want to add some young centers

But at some point, you have to trade in some of the currency you have for established NHL talent, and I think the Sabres in this case would prefer to trade for someone with term at the deadline. I don’t think they’d be keen on parting with number ones though.
For Anderson though, I’d be highly interested in paying up some of the premium prospects. 2 more years after this year at 4.5.

If Granato has no intention of playing Krebs as anything more than a fourth liner, then he should be moved for something that can help the team. Laughton would be very coveted as well as Seeler, to make this team harder to play against. Depends on what they think of Ostlund as a prospect, and if their intrigued enough to add a young Krebs to the roster to take a look at.

I think there’s interest in Jake Allen, I think he’s easily better than Comrie. A 3.85 million cap hit for a backup goalie is a tough sell, but he would be good mentor. I’d take him on if it was for cheap and if it was apart of a bigger deal.
If Allen does come here, only request I have is that he wears #17. Give up that number Jost

It might even take more than a first to get him, mainly because it’s one of these scenarios where he means more to the organization than his actual value. It will take an over pay for San Jose to part with one of their key locker room guys and leaders. He’s captain material on that team.

When the team is this young, shaking it up for the sake of it doesnt really pay off the way you want it to. It would be like the Avs doing this the year they had 48 pts before they became a contender. Your best bet when a team is this young is to make meaningful changes in the off season. The window dressing stuff doesnt move the needle.</div></div>
I think they need one guy for the fourth line, to eventually replace Girgensons, that would be Duhaime for me, and he’s a sound penalty, and he actually has more skill than. People realize.
I think they may have overextended themselves by adding both E.Johnson and Clifton because they’re both penalty killing specialist who struggle to move the puck. Thats why Bryson is still here, and why Ryan Johnson is still here and another reason aside from the forward injuries of why we need to go 7D.
I think they need one forward with some grit and toughness for the bottom line, one forward with skill and versatility and a guy who can take draws as a bonus

He’s had a rough start to the year, but he’s a big, skilled, talented scorer who can get you 30-35 goal pace consistently who can also line up at center if you’re in a disaster granted, can’t do it that well, and is signed for two more after this year. It’s intriguing.
But I’m not sure that’s what we should go for. I think we need to lean into the defense and acquire someone who is good on draws for the bottom six, acquire a forward with grit who is hard to play against like a Foligno, and look for another quality defenseman if they can upgrade over Jokiharju. Mario Ferraro comes to mind immediately.

For me, Ferraro is really the guy I’d want. I love his game, and I think he fits in to most team’s top four. Great locker room guy, physical, on a decent contract. I think the offer I presented for both is a low ball offer to be honest, I would probably need to part with a first round level asset to make it happen if Ferraro with term is coming this way.
I’d be curious to know how Sharks fans value him.
Strum was just another player I wanted because of the face offs and defensive abilities.

Blockbuster Trade
I know a lot of people are going to **** all over this trade , so I’ll say The issue so much isn’t so much the talent, it’s more the fact that it’s Dylan Cozens who will be 23 in February and signed to what will end up being a bargain as the cap continues to go up. Plus, Buffalo is ABSOLUTELY NOT adding a first or any capital to the deal, and has also proven to be a vital guy for the culture, who plays his ass offf, and is young
Lindholm is another Bo Horvat to me. He will easily return a first but for the Sabres, unless he’s a rental, I have no other interest. He’s going to command and ask for 8-9 million on the open market for 7-8 years, and historically we know how those deals play out.
Hanifin on the other hand, in terms of 1 for 1 value for Cozens even if he came with an extension wouldn’t be enough because Cozens is still in the upside phase of his career and plays a premium position. He’s a guy they are keeping and building around.
