Leafs
So that's not going to happen. Simply because the Leafs have a very empty closet of assets as it is. This trade essentially takes any asset the Leafs may have of value and ships it away so they're left with basically 0. Next season when they still have Tavares at 11M they're going to need ELC to make sure they're not over the cap. .

That's wayyyy to much for Dowd and Edmundson. You're essentially giving up 2 1st round picks or a 1st and a 2nd and also a 5ththere in that trade for dowd and Edmondson

Last one didnt go well so here is a better one parayko part 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>- Parayko has played the best hockey of his career this season. He's in the top 10, if not the top five, of almost every individual stat for a Dman they count.
- There is exactly nothing unmovable about a guy who has continuously been the persistent subject of GM calls, media nonsense and fan fantasies for 5-6 years. The mere assertion is baffling.
- Your "offer" barely pays for the retention Toronto is NEVER getting from Army. It's glaringly laughable. That's not a dig, it's pure reality.
- "Best prospect to hit the Leafs system since Matthews" ain't sayin' much, bud. Hate to break it to ya. Cowan wasn't even in Pronman's top 168 when the season started. Wasn't in Daily Faceoff's last top 75. The highest you'll probably see him is THW, which speaks for itself. The Blues have four, if not five F prospects that are higher rated, the majority of them far higher.</div></div>
So you're saying Parayko IS the guy he was when he signed this deal for the last 40 games maybe?
I'm not saying he's a horrible defenceman I didn't say that.
What I said is he's unmovable. And that's where we differ. Look at that contract.... you're telling me that's a good contract? How about a year from now? 2 years from now? Three years from now? 4 years from now when he's 34-35 all the way to 37?
Now the saving grace I'll give you is the salary cap will be going up and players who are making 3M now will be making 6M then so it COULD mak3 sense...
I just don't see him because he had a good half of the season after a complete horrible seasons being traded with that contract attached. I dont... call me crazy.
And I don't see the Blues retaining like I said because of the Length . THATis why he remains a Blue. Not for any other reason.

With the Klingberg move I could see Treliving getting Dumba but he's not what the Leafs need rn.
What I took out of.Trelivings last statement is what Shanahan.has always preached. So it's probably coming.from.Shanahan. that he's not wanting to give up top assets and first round picks for rental players.
That is why I see Hanafin out of it for the Leafs I believe he wants to be in Boston so he won't resign in Toronto.

Man... Parayko isn't the player he was when he signed that deal. He already isn't playing up to the 6.5M he's signed to and he's still only 30. He's going to start regressing more because of age and he's signed for like another 7 seasons or something stupid. If the Leafs could get him for
Parayko 50%Retained
Niemela
Abruz3ze
1st 2024
Then I consider it. However I'm not giving up the best prospect to hit the Leafs system S since Matthew's PLUS PLUS. For.an aging defenceman who's already not playing up to his contract he just signed. Going past 30 already...
That contract is going to become an albatross for any team who has it. The Blues had the perfect time to.trade Parayko around when they moved Petrangelo and they chose not to. They could have really scored for him and probably got close to what your going for but now he's just not that guy.
That's an un movable contract for the Blues even if they wanted to. He's making 6.5M . A team isn't going to do them a favor and just take all that on without retention. And Blues won't retain because of the length.

So I mustn't see what you're seeing in holmberg. I mean he's going to be a solid bottom 6 player but so is clutterbuck. Yes the age is a factor. But holmberg can't make the lineup rn. It's possible they move him out for depth help.
There is zero chance the isles take reeves contrat for an expiring clutterbuck contract with money retained which Toronto would want and need.alot of people.Re sheeting on guys like bertuzzi domi but those types of guys who are phyical and can play are the guys who are going to win us games in the playoffs. It showed when they played Montreal. They had the grinders perry and Anderson and that really helped them late in series.

So perhaps the 4th is an overkill perhaps they go Holmberg and a 6th or whatever. Because of the retain I was going a bit heavy.
Clutterbuck isn't the player he used to be no. However he is still a really good reliable defensive forward for the 4th line who hits anything and can hold his own in the face-off dot and can PK. Let me tell you. I MUCH prefer him then Ryan Reeves who's only there doing one thing.. to hit and intimidate...

I somewhat disagree, with Berts past in the playoffs I bet there would be a team that would give up say the 30th overall pick in a very slim draft this year if the team retained 50% for the rest of the year. I could see it. Even if the team needed to add a mid tier prospect I could see it.

I would keep Liljgren over Dumba anyday. Dumba is NOT good at defence. He would get eaten alive in the mosh pit that is the toronto media . Hes not the guy toronto should be getting to play any minutes when theyre aleady not playing good defence for most of the year.

Honestly This makes our defense worse IMO. These arnt the style guys the leafs need to succeed in the playoffs.
Dumba is not very good at defence. He hits. thats about it. Hes overpaid IMO. When he broke into the league and he was the big hitter heavy shot guy playing on a heavy defesive system like Minnisota they could sheild his imperfections. on a team like Toronto those would be GLARING. The leafs need guys who can block shots, hit , and most of all play good defence.
Guys like
Joel Edmundsson would be HUGE
Ilya Libushkin.
Mario Ferraro
and then they need a minute eater BIG shutdown defencman.
They need that Zdeno Chara type defencman who can log those hard minutes in the playoffs and the team can Lean on. Reilly is good hes just not that guy you should be giving 23+ minutes to.
They need a guy like a
Noah Hanafin
a Colton Parayko
to me those are the 2 guys Toronto could get that would be exactly what they need.
Problem is Neither of those guys are being let go of unless toronto trades either Nylander (Not happenig now that he signed) or Minten or Cowan or Knies, Which its been said theyre not doing.
If the Leafs could somehow get either of those guys without giving up any of those pieces.
Even if it has to include 2 1sts Niemela , Robertson, whatever it takes to .
Honestly though if one of those 2 defencmen were coming back I would FOR SURE trade a
Cowan
and a 1st for one of them.

I mean I dont know about TERRIBLE. may not be exact value. However the Konecny trade. I really dont know..
I would think they would want a top prospect and a 1st as a starter... I know Cowan isnt a top tier prospect in the League but hes one of the best Toronto has...
So usually star players from what i see begin at a Top Prospect, a First and a Roster Player. That seems to be the start.
Bertuzzi wouldnt be a bad pickup for Philly as they could retain and flip him for more picks. If they retained 50% on Bertuzzi they could get a lower 1st for sure.
So youd be looking at.
2 1sts
Cowan
5th
for
Konecny
So pretty much 3 first round picks. Thats pretty good for Konecny I would think....
the 2.5M retained really means nothing. And also the flyers dont have to retain on Konecny which alot of other teams willl want.
I really dont know what Seller is worth I figure hes a good 5-6 Dman. I wouldnt think they would be worth anymore then a 5th-6th... I would think Timmins could fetch a 3rd or a 4th....

the problem was Toronto had handed out to many high value contracts they couldnt AFFORD McCann, Its not about replacing Hyman . if They coud have afforded to pay McCann 5M+ they would have just kept hyman for 5.5M.....The point is they couldnt afford to resign either of McCann or Hyman. They Picked up Ritchie for 2.5M more affordable with the contracts they had , had it worked. which it didnt.

Holl was extremely under appreciated on this team. For 2M what Justin Holl brought to this team could not be replaced by anyone making less then that by a signing or in the system. The leafs are actually dealing with his loss this season. They havent been the same on the PK. Same with Kerfoot. He brought an element to this team that nobody has stepped up to fill yet consistently.
I dont think Keeping Holl and Kerfoot was that bad of an idea. The leafs couldnt afford to resign McCann to the 5mil plus he wanted. Thats probably why they chose tolet him go over kerfoot.

Haha. Well atleast that was a good argument. My point is...The guys 33 years old. Has had some HORRIFIC injuries that are likely gunna shorten his career. Hes signed to an ALBATROSS of a contract til hes like 38. I guarentee the sharks trade him before the season starts because they cant risk him getting hurt or having a slow start to the season.
My point is since hes started having these injuries he hasnt played more then 50+ games once last season..
If they guy could play good defence I would be ALLL OVER this guy ... I get hes a really good ofeensive player. Hes a good puck mover , he tries to do to much alot and gets caught out of position alot or flat flooted or pivoting the wrong way... YES ive watched EK. I just cant fathom giving up Nylander plus a first PLUS for the guy. or even Nylander alone...i just personally think its to much.

You can talk about his contract, and his points, and his defensive analytics all you want, but when you watch him ACTUALLY play you'll see that he takes over games. He's not struggling physically AT ALL. Dude is healthy and if you think a conditional 2nd, some cap dumps, and some C level prospects is what he's worth than I don't know what to tell you.</div></div>
I go on the larger picture. not just one small sample size. Making decisions based on a small sample size or one good season is how teams get stuck with bad contracts. They pay for the player at their absolute height then expect that every single season and the player can never recapture it. Happens all to often.
I just look at Karlssons last few seasons since hes been with SJ. Games Played: 53-56-52-50-82, This tells me the guys injury prone and if im paying top Dollar for a guy.. I atleast want to know hes gunna be on the ice when I need them the most.
