I beg to differ. Everyones negative on the guy now because of what just happened. And what the leafs have gone through for years. Kessel couldnt win in Toronto until he left. Now the teams are way different but theyre the same style "Complimentary pieces " one a playmaker one more of a goal scorer. The fact is the guys still a 100 pt guy. Getting a top pairing defenceman thats caable on playing 20 mins and a potential 2nd line guy... as i said top 6.. They could easily get for marner.

If im the leafs im taking that 100% and hope they can re build Skinners value and move him. That 2025 pick is probably gunna be a good one.
IMO the leafs arnt going to trade Marner for futures though... If theyre going to trade him the package is going to be for A top defenceman and a top 6 forward. Theyre not in for the futures and first round picks at this situation
Not to mention people need to remember... Marner has a NMC... why would he leave the leafs to join and even worse team,,

Youre quite off with the UFA signings.
Domi- Theres ZERO chance he only signs a 3 year deal and for 3 mil?! After the season he had. He bet on himself and he won hes not going to turn around and resign for the same amount on a longer term deal.
Domi to keep him youre looking at 4x4.25-4.5M. He is going to be sought after as he has shown to elevate his game in the playoffs. teams love that kind of player. There will be a bit of a bidding war.
Tyler Bertuzzi. Same thing , he wont be just signing a 2 year deal probably a 3. The only reason he signed a 1 year deal with the leafs was because he wanted to wait til this year to sign his longer deal when the caps going up. Hes not going to take less money and a 2 year deal.
Expect Bertuzzi to be signed in the 3x5.5M
That LA trade.. WHY? Why woulld the leafs do thatt. .. to me that makes the leafs so much worse.
Lets put this into perspective youre trading....
Marner and Niemela for Anderson and Clarke with a couple 2nd round picks.
Really? Im trying to be nice here but How does that make them closer to a cup?
Matt Roy-- Why would the King not EASILY match that? Thats wayyy to low for the kings not to match. If the Leafs want Roy they would have to give him 7M+ to get him away from the Kings even then they may match.
Liljgren and Jarnkrok for a 2nd im not gunna say anything becase im sure you know what im gunna say there.
Just none of this makes any sense I get its fantasy but you have to understand the caps going up and these teams have an opportunity to pay the player just as much if not more. Alot of times players get over paid in free agency for that reason.

Big off-season
Why would the leafs want to age themselves like that in the Flames trade?
The guys 35 years old. How many "decent" years do you think he has left? maybe one? to maybe? and you want to give up 2 of the leafs top 10 assets for him? PLUS a 4th?
I dont know if you were around back then but the leafs used to do this EXACT thing. Trade away all their top young prospects for Older aged "stars" in the twilight of their careers.
Example: Traded for : Owen Nolan, Brian Leetch, Ron Francis, Nick Foligno , ALL aquired in their twilights of their careers giving up 1st round picks and top prospects. and NEVER got a cup.
Signed: Eric Lindros
I cant not mention the trade that brought The older Andrew Raycroft to Toronto for Tuuka Rask
Or Kessel coming to Toronto for Seguin and Dougie Hamilton.
Leafs fans need to be careful what they wish for when just throwing away prospects for older guys who are on the downswing of their careers as Backlund most definitely is.
You still see if on a smaller scale nowadays. Leafs gave up on Mason Marchment who florished into a solid 50-60 pt guy who brings what the leafs actually need , grit. front net prenscense. For a guy called Malgin who barely played for them if he did in a very limited role.
Sean Durzi- A real good offensive defencman they could use about now.
Trevor Moore- Couldnt get into the lineup for the leafs , However now with the kings this season is on pace for 30 goals.
My point is IF youre trading these prospects, You best be getting a guy in return who will be servicable to your organization for years to come a guy like Backlund... wont be.

Marner wont be signing for 8 years. Hes going to follow Matthews. at 4-5 to Maximize their money They have always done this and they have done nothing but try to make sure they get the most money possible so Marner will want another payout once the cap goes up alot.
Expect Marners contract to come in at 12.25-12.5M over 4 years.

Next season
So I just think you have values of players a little messed up IMO.
Cam Talbot- Hes holding a .916 , as of now tied for 4th in the league, Also looking at 2.44 GAA Which is top 5 in the league. Barring some kind of monumental collapse hes going to want to cash in one more time before he retires as he hasnt made a whole lot of money in his career.
Cam Talbot will be signed to a 2 year x3M per year deal whether with the kings or another team.
Max Domi- The reason he signed a 3M deal and only 1 year is because he knew hes worth more and wanted a prove it deal. for him to turn around and sign a 5 year deal taking away all the rest of his prime years all the way to 34 it isnt going to be for 3.5M. you have to understand the cap is skyrocketing in the next 1-2-3-4 years. And every year you add the more it will cost the team. for hypathetical example a 2 year deal may be 4M for a player , a 3 year deal will be 4.5M a 4 year deal 5M and so on. obviously unless theyre like 37 years old.
I dont think Toronto would want Domi on a 5 year deal. IF they resign him it will be MAX 3 years around 4.25M
The same goes for Bertuzzi. Im sorry but hes not coming back to Toronto. Hes going to price himself out. Theres just going to be to many teams interested for it not to become a bidding war. The reason the leafs were able to get them both at 1 year was because they players wanted "Prove it deals" and they looked at Toronto as a team they could go to , to play on a high offense team. Get careeer highs then cash in on a long term deal somewhere else.
I do think the 5.5M is actually reasonable for Bertuzzi though. The leafs just cant pay it with the raises of Matthews and Nylander.
My Next question to you is , If you get rid of Kampf and Jarnkrok who in the world is going to play defence on this team? Whos going to PK? Theres a reason those guys are on the team. Theyre valuable in their own way. its uaully Kampf and Marner PK.
I think if they could have got a 1st for Liljgren they would have moved him instead of Sandin.

So a guy lie Tanev fetches a prospect a 2nd and a 3rd. Tanev. a much superior established defencman. Yes on an expiring contract. However im not in the ballpark at Robertson and a 3rd for him? I dont see why hes valued so high IMO. Id have to say mtl could keep him if they wont take maybe Robertson and a 2nd and a 3rd or something like that. people seem to be valuing him as the second coming of Chris Pronger or something... Which ill admit I dont know his true value obviously. I would MAYBE give a 2026 1st rounder and a 6th or something like that , however I just dont know if at that price if hes the right player that the leafs need to be spending that 1st on at their position.

So where do you estimate his ceiling is on a good team? Highest 3-4? Heres my thought of it. I look at a guy like Chris Tanev. I think we all agree Tanev is far and away the better all around defenseman.
now you can factor in age and potential but if you estimate Xhekaj to be a 3-4 defencman thats right around or below Chris Tanev that fetched a 2nd, 3rd and a prospect. Yes on an expiring deal.
Its hard to use those as comparables just due to age. contract status. and Xhekaj is playing 2nd pair on a not good team and Tanev is playing the same on a good team. So based on alll this I could see why people want more for him. However id never give up Minten or Cowan for him. If anything i would do something similar to the tanev trade perhaps Robertson,a 2nd and a 3rd. If the leafs got a 2nd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SMH</b></div><div>Mocking a trade or laughing at a trade isn't allowed on this website, so I'll ask you a constructive question, even if you think Xhekaj and robertson somehow have the same value, what makes you think that montreal need a player like robertson ?</div></div>
So I appreciate the constructive conversation obviously everyone isnt 100% in tune with Values. I was more looking at 2 guys needing potentially a change of scenery.
So What makes me think Montreal needs a player like robertson... Ill try and back my theory up with my interpretation of facts.
Here is my thought process on the Habs side:
1. Montreal does have Caufield as top line LW which thats good cause Robertson isnt a top line player atleast rn anyways. The Habs are Very thin on the left side behind Caufeild. Their options are Gallagher which has had a very rough season and is not producing at a 2LW pace or even close. Same with their other potential option in Josh Anderson.
Montreal I believe is in the bottom 5 in Goals for on the season. and would benefit from some depth scoring as their scoring seems to come from Suzuki or Caufeild.
Even their Injuries of Dvorak and Dach dont help their thinness on the left side. Centre of RW.
2. Robertson can be had for VERY cheap with the potential of Huge upside given proper reps in the top 6. Something he could never get to in toronto for one reason or another wheter it be their depth or injuries. Robertson could be had for Sub 2M on a 2-3 year deal being as close as they are to the cap a top 6 winger making 2-3M would be a huge benfit.
Obviously those are my reasons for Montreal needing an offensive LW. Now that doesnt need to be robertson obviously any offensive LW would do.
I would be willing to add for Xhejak I just dont believe hes worth a Cowan or a Minten. Dont think hes on that level.
If the leafs could get a 2nd I would do a second and Robertson. However they dont have one. so I would be willing to do something like
Robertson, Niemela and a 3rd. or something like that. anymore then that id pass. by the sounds of it he has got better since coming back , i just dont know where his ceiling could be. hes already 23 YO. I dont see him ever being a top pairing D. I see him being a good 3-4 Dman on a good team max imo. for that reason I wouldnt give up a 1st plus or Minten and cowan like others are suggesting.

The guys decent however hes having a hard time staying in a Montreal lineup it seemed like. I figure both sides would benefit from a change of scenery.
Robertson would get the shot in Montreal he wont get in Toronto because of the players hes behind/Injuries. I know youre being sarcastic obviously. I just dont see Xhekaj being worth a ton rn.
I would be open to adding for Xhekaj just neither of those guys.
Perhaps
Robertson,Niemela...Or Robertson and a 3rd round pick. Anymore then that as of rn id pass probably. I know he has potential just who knows if he will reach it... same with Robertson.

I'm with you that those guys can really help this leafs team especially Larsson. They need a guy like that.
however I don't see that deal happening on Seattle's end if they're giving up Larrson they're going to want Minten or Cowan. I mean they could use the 1st to flip and get a player but I just don't see that being enticing enough of a trade for Seattle to move a guy who has another year on his deal and is on a team friendly deal I would think they hold out.
I would be thinking something like
Minten
Timmins
1st

So that's not going to happen. Simply because the Leafs have a very empty closet of assets as it is. This trade essentially takes any asset the Leafs may have of value and ships it away so they're left with basically 0. Next season when they still have Tavares at 11M they're going to need ELC to make sure they're not over the cap. .

Last one didnt go well so here is a better one parayko part 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>- Parayko has played the best hockey of his career this season. He's in the top 10, if not the top five, of almost every individual stat for a Dman they count.
- There is exactly nothing unmovable about a guy who has continuously been the persistent subject of GM calls, media nonsense and fan fantasies for 5-6 years. The mere assertion is baffling.
- Your "offer" barely pays for the retention Toronto is NEVER getting from Army. It's glaringly laughable. That's not a dig, it's pure reality.
- "Best prospect to hit the Leafs system since Matthews" ain't sayin' much, bud. Hate to break it to ya. Cowan wasn't even in Pronman's top 168 when the season started. Wasn't in Daily Faceoff's last top 75. The highest you'll probably see him is THW, which speaks for itself. The Blues have four, if not five F prospects that are higher rated, the majority of them far higher.</div></div>
So you're saying Parayko IS the guy he was when he signed this deal for the last 40 games maybe?
I'm not saying he's a horrible defenceman I didn't say that.
What I said is he's unmovable. And that's where we differ. Look at that contract.... you're telling me that's a good contract? How about a year from now? 2 years from now? Three years from now? 4 years from now when he's 34-35 all the way to 37?
Now the saving grace I'll give you is the salary cap will be going up and players who are making 3M now will be making 6M then so it COULD mak3 sense...
I just don't see him because he had a good half of the season after a complete horrible seasons being traded with that contract attached. I dont... call me crazy.
And I don't see the Blues retaining like I said because of the Length . THATis why he remains a Blue. Not for any other reason.

What I took out of.Trelivings last statement is what Shanahan.has always preached. So it's probably coming.from.Shanahan. that he's not wanting to give up top assets and first round picks for rental players.

Man... Parayko isn't the player he was when he signed that deal. He already isn't playing up to the 6.5M he's signed to and he's still only 30. He's going to start regressing more because of age and he's signed for like another 7 seasons or something stupid. If the Leafs could get him for
Parayko 50%Retained
Niemela
Abruz3ze
1st 2024
Then I consider it. However I'm not giving up the best prospect to hit the Leafs system S since Matthew's PLUS PLUS. For.an aging defenceman who's already not playing up to his contract he just signed. Going past 30 already...
That contract is going to become an albatross for any team who has it. The Blues had the perfect time to.trade Parayko around when they moved Petrangelo and they chose not to. They could have really scored for him and probably got close to what your going for but now he's just not that guy.
That's an un movable contract for the Blues even if they wanted to. He's making 6.5M . A team isn't going to do them a favor and just take all that on without retention. And Blues won't retain because of the length.

There is zero chance the isles take reeves contrat for an expiring clutterbuck contract with money retained which Toronto would want and need.alot of people.Re sheeting on guys like bertuzzi domi but those types of guys who are phyical and can play are the guys who are going to win us games in the playoffs.
