The Sabres dont need Marner, and arent giving all that up for him, especially with that awful extention. They already have Dahlin making that much

If im the leafs im taking that 100% and hope they can re build Skinners value and move him. That 2025 pick is probably gunna be a good one.
IMO the leafs arnt going to trade Marner for futures though... If theyre going to trade him the package is going to be for A top defenceman and a top 6 forward. Theyre not in for the futures and first round picks at this situation

Not to mention people need to remember... Marner has a NMC... why would he leave the leafs to join and even worse team,,

The issue though is we have to extend a lot of guys next offseason, and we wouldn't have the space to do that with Marner. You'd need to move Cozens or Power to make this team work long term

They definitely won't be getting a top dman and a top six forward for 1 year of marner.

If he wants to move on, there are few teams with enough cap space to acquire him so he won't have his pick of teams that he would probably want to be traded to.

I beg to differ. Everyones negative on the guy now because of what just happened. And what the leafs have gone through for years. Kessel couldnt win in Toronto until he left. Now the teams are way different but theyre the same style "Complimentary pieces " one a playmaker one more of a goal scorer. The fact is the guys still a 100 pt guy. Getting a top pairing defenceman thats caable on playing 20 mins and a potential 2nd line guy... as i said top 6.. They could easily get for marner.

If Quinn, JJP, and Bo sign 2 year bridge deals then it can be done. Eventually we're gonna need to have roster turnover though. I'm not worried about the cap situation at this point, being good is priority #1. Good teams rarely have 5 dmen making 4M$+ as well so that's where your change occurs.

I doubt Leafs take on the Skinner contract even at 50% retained but ya I think he and Tage could be a decent duo.

Leafs wouldn’t take this in a million years. Good teams have elite forwards. I’d give up Skinner and Clifton for free due to contracts. So you’re getting Marner for a pick and unproven prospect. He’d instantly become the best forward in our team. $11.5m for a consistent point a game player is nothing

Clifton is fine for his contract, and the Sabres have enough top 6 forwards without Skinner. 70% of Marners points come from assists, take Matthews away hes not going to be a consistent ppg player. That contract will be an embarrassment pretty quickly. Hes also consistent at dissappearing in the playoffs. They also just dont have the cap space for 2 players making 11 mill, a lesson taught to us all by the Maple Leafs and why Marner is theoretically available

The leafs have 3 players making $11m and it’ll be 4 next year. Without an elite 1C Sabres will struggle. They can afford to pay someone $11m cause Skinners $9m will be gone soon and the cap goes up. I just think we’re missing an elite F

The Sabres will be paying Dahlin 11 mill. They also had Eichel and struggled. They also have more higher value contracts than Toronto
