Yeah, that or he starts out the year well, wants to be a backup on a contender, and we retain 50%. A lot needs to break right before I see Andy being traded.

My opening night lineup

What I hope: Smith, Boedker, Hainsey for mid round picks (I almost put Pageau there, but I love him too much). Basically fire sale on any and all vets!
What I think: Duclair if he plays well, Boedker, DeMelo (I hope not though, good Chabot partner but might become a bit pricey and UFA), Pageau, and one of Lajoie/Wolanin since next year the LD gets pretty crowded.

Yeah, I don't see this as a starter for Ottawa, too much term on those two contracts and too little return to make it worth while.

Retained salary then maybe I'd touch that contract. It's hard to get a read on what kind of player Turris is now, like he recently had decent production in '17-'18 but was this last year decline or just injuries? I might be the minority that wouldn't mind him back at the right price.

As an Ottawa fan I'd do that McArthur trade. Upgrade a 4th to a 2nd for 1 more year of Reaves at $2.775mil, sure? We're also super thin at RW and tanking so we might as well.

^This, they’ll likely have Gaborik and MacArthur on the roster until training cap adding just under $10mln to the cap. Then you just need to take a Clarkson contract or perhaps just keep Boedker until the Trade deadline

I think they would want to take as many LTIR players as possible (to lighten the load on poor Melnyk's wallet as most are insured). Maybe that would change it down to a lower pick, but I chose SJS's since it was likely the lower of the two you have.

The Smith trade is more just to make space for rookies. He's a useful player, but you really you get whatever picks you can for him from any team (Calgary or otherwise). Now Muzzin I'm more interested in since they're sending two good prospects (not necessarily top prospects, but Lajoie is already looking good in a top-4 role and Chlapík would likely be in the NHL if he wasn't just coming back from injury). What would need to be added to make it more realistic?

Yeah, right idea trading for Dzingle as he'll likely be available and would probably add some speed to Washington, but the pieces moving in the trade are off as Ottawa neither needs nor wants forward contracts and wants to acquire more draft picks for a rebuild rather than give them up. I do believe they give up Dzingle at the trade deadline for any combination of young defenceman/goalies/picks not depth at forward.

Scoring Depth Improvement
Only problem is that if (big assumption, I know) Karlsson isn't traded then there's no room for Stone on the right side. Has he ever played LD? Otherwise I'd do that trade for Ottawa and I'd double do it if Karlsson is gone.

Keep Karlsson
Although, I actually do like Smith as a good and gritty 3C/Winger, I do agree that for salary considerations we need to trade him before the 2019 season. However, I'm thinking he'd be better of traded at the trade deadline rather than the off-season where his particular skill-sets are more desirable for a playoff team and can command a higher premium. I think he starts the year in Ottawa and is traded at the deadline.

2- De Haan aint taking a pay cut, expect about 5.0M-6.0M spent on him on July 1st,

Look again, I do have Ottawa keeping the 2018 pick.... that’s how Tkachuk is there. Also, I’ll admit this is cheap contract for De Haan but everywhere I’ve seen shows him in the 3.5 to 5M range, not 6M.

I think the sens take this trade. The only hindrance is that the Sens love Ceci (maybe a bit too much) and don't have any RHD to immediately replace him.

Yeah, they definitely won't spend this much, but it would be nice if they do. I'd imagine that the Stone contract might come out to be a little cheaper at ~$7M when using Pastrnak and Gudreau as examples (adjusted a bit higher for rising cap, but also lower since those were for only 6 years), and the other ones are ballpark correct (not sure about Derick Ryan though). We probably won't sign Stastny and just try a combo of white/brown/Pageu to fight for the 2C spot. With those factored in we're closer to $72.5M which is around where we are now. I like the De Haan signing.

Yeah, I expect any Grubauer trade to be similar to the Lehner trade a few years back where it was a 1st + low end player (legwand). This time there might be more suitors for Grubauer so maybe a little more than that.

I'm 100% agreed on that. Those 'big 3' contracts alone will determine the future direction of this franchise.

Sens Year 1
Not bad and pretty realistic, I hope they sign De Haan, but I think it might be for a little more than $4M. The big question is what will Ceci's next contract look like? I definitely don't believe he should be signed for over $4M and for 4+years, but the way Sens management seems to be enamored with him I think the potential for them to make a big mistake on $$ and term is pretty high here. You're contract for Ceci IMO is probably the most ideal outcome.

Youth Movement
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PistolP</b></div><div>I agree with most of what you have done, and especially with the overall goal. I do feel that with Logan Brown's size and injury history in Junior, he will need a full season in the AHL. (Bigger guys often take longer to develop.) And with only one year remaining on Colin White's entry level deal, I would put him at centre and give him one season to prove he is a NHL calibre centre. In his case, I'm not expecting him to be a #1 or #2 centre, a #3 would be fine. Nice job!</div></div>
Yeah, I was reluctant to put Svechnikov (assuming we pick 2nd) in right away as I'm always skeptical of a 1st year pro being a difference-maker no matter who they are. If he is indeed ready, i may consider trading Hoffman for a centre of the Nugent-Hopkins variety or for Fabbri+ from St. Louis and have them as the 2nd line centre. Although, I don't want to box either Colin white or Brown from taking that 2c position so I decided to just leave them in and have a bit of a competition in which they duel it out to see who can take that spot. In that situation Svechnikov/formenton/batherson can fight it out for the 2nd LW spot. Of course, it's all moot if we get 1st OA and draft Dahlin.
