Keeping The Core Another Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dave31</b></div><div>Thats a great question, Id have to assume its in the same ballpark that guys like Kapanen and Johnson got in Toronto so probably around $3.5 for 3 years? Considering he took $1m this year I don't think he's too greedy lol and he's young so he's a solid piece for sure</div></div>
Yea he has a lot of potential and if I was poile I would really think about it but with Arvidsson’s contract and him being one of our elite goal scorers it would be hard to deal him. This offer is a nice one though but I think poile would pass because he’s the preds heart and teammates feed off his energy

Keeping The Core Another Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dave31</b></div><div>I wouldn't have thought he might be available if it weren't for how clear the GM made it that they would be making big moves. I see your point for sure, but when a GM says that, it could potentially mean nothing is off the table. Cant imagine his value being much more than this offer right now though, Labanc and a 1st is a great return</div></div>
The return is definitely a competetive offer. I have seen he's interested in change, but he also said he liked seeing the JoFA line back together and thought they were the best line in the playoffs. I just think Arvy is the least of the Preds worries. It's a fair offer, I just want to keep Arvy - he's a great player and fan-favorite!

If that doesn't end up being an option I think a 2nd and a 3rd could be a solid move for both teams if you keep Markstrom, especially with DiPietro in the system already</div></div>
I mean most Detroit fans have made it clear they're willing to take Loui for Demko and a pick. But sure if that deal isn't on the table I think they may consider it

Two Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks33</b></div><div>I agree with <a href="/users/ItsBlowTime" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@ItsBlowTime</a> , I don't think Merkley moves the needle enough for us. We need RHD prospects, but two-way or defensive ones not offensive ones. We already have Hughes as our PP1 and offensive defensemen for the next 15 years, so Merkley wouldn't be in a position to be maximized here.
If the Sharks want Demko and/or Virtanen, a deal involving a cap dump (likely Eriksson) would be the way to go.</div></div>
Having an offensive RHD on the 2nd pairing is nothing but an asset for the Canucks. Quinn hughes is still the #1, but the Canucks can have a solid second unit as well.
Plus, Merkley will be on an ELC, so he saves the Canucks in cap space simply by being cheaper than carrying DeMelo or some other random FA instead

Two Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dave31</b></div><div>Glad to see I wasn't crazy here, based on almost every Canucks fan Ive talked to this seems like exactly the type of trade the Canucks should be looking at so thats nice to hear</div></div>
Too many Canucks fans think we have to dump every single bad contract we have this off season to stay compliant. They see Demko as a possible sweetener (which makes sense) so they’re afraid to trade him away for anything else.
In reality, we probably only need to dump one, maybe two bad contracts, and the Canucks have plenty other sweetener options. Merkley would be a huge add and would be a top 4 player on an ELC, further reducing our cap problems.
Seems like a no brainer, however I would prefer they find a way to keep the swings rounder.
I think a swap of just the players would be fair

Bad take.
Get rid of the picks and the Canucks should be all over this. Hell even with the picks they should still be looking into it real close.
Demko is likely gone in the expansion draft if we don’t deal him

If Habs Move Domi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dave31</b></div><div>Great to hear that perspective on this thank you, thats exactly what I was thinking when I thought Merkley would be a very desirable target for the Habs. I think Domi would end up being a C for us regardless considering Thornton isn't gonna be around much longer but thats great input. Other Sharks fans are telling me its too much to offer on our end so just out of curiosity, if you were to move Domi would you still accept the same trade but instead of the 1st its our 2nd? Keep in mind our 2nd is going to be very early in the round and basically just be a late 1st this year anyways.</div></div>
Probably yes, I’m interested in William Villeneuve RHD, and is around early 2nd rd pick and we could move up by trading one of our many mid/late round pick to make sure. So yes, 2020 2nd + Merkley + Sorensens + Ivan vs Domi is a good offer. This, Domi + little something vs 8th OA BUF is another good trade for Domi or Domi to WPG for their 2020 1st + Vesalainen or 2020 2nd + Heinola are trades I’ll make for Domi. Otherwise I’ll keep him and move Suzuki to the wing, Suzuki can take faceoffs

Who is trading for Burns and Karlsson though?
Maybe you can find a taker for Burns but Karlsson would be almost impossible to move in a flat cap, not to mention he has a full NMC.
They need to go all in as possible to win a cup and deal with the down years later.

If Habs Move Domi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>crankshaft</b></div><div>Just awful for the Sharks. C isn't even a need of ours but with this trade not only do you not fill our hole on RW but you create a new hole with RHD and make the prospect outlook worse.</div></div>
This is great for the Sharks, you add a top 6 forward which you need and if one of Hertl or Couture get injured you have Domi who can capably fill in, tasking 41 year old Thorton to be a 2C shouldn't be your only option if you want to compete.
Considering the Sharks have $19.5M tied up in Karlsson and Burns trading Merkley hardly creates a hole at RHD.
With the Sharks having so much $$$/term invested in guys in their primes they need not worry about the prospect outlook, they need to worry about winning a cup before this core gets too old.
Can't believe any Sharks fans dislike this.

A lot of this site doesn’t tend to recognize what it is trying to accomplish just look at trades as values less about direction. Taking all things into account now is the time for SAN Jose to do it.

I agree. They are committed heavily into that blueline need to do everything to get the most of it now before it takes a drop that could get ugly for a few years that’s likely to force a rebuild anyway. I get what your up to

NYR Big Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JDavid</b></div><div>Ya that all looks almost exactly how I would imagine it as well, but I had Deangelo getting about $6.5 too because you'd have to think he earned it this year right? I guess my point is if you know that Strome is gonna get moved, I would think this offer would be pretty appealing. And you know you don't need three goalies going into next year, so why not get a good return while you can right? Merkley and a 1st have a ton of value if you wanted to flip them, seems like a win win</div></div>
Yeah I realized you changed the trade afterwards. I think it helps both teams out in the respect. Gives you guys a solid goalie option, plus Strome who in your top 6 should still be a 50 point player at the min. The 1st is essentially the second 2nd we would want for Georgie and Strome. Leaves us cap room and some extra maneuvering to go out and make another move or something.
