Huge trade Dubois to Habs flipping LHS and RHS Dmen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Robinho3799</b></div><div>You mean cancer by zodiac sign ? :D
Well, I personally think PLD can work out with the Kings if he has some decent wingers on his line. He was mostly centering the third line with Laferriere on RW (rookie season), Anderson-Dolan on LW, who is not NHL-level, guys like Kaliyev who is not working out with the team and partly Grundstrom or a few games Lizotte, who are also not known as top 6 wingers.
That being said, his role was not clear all season long and guys were shuffled around on his line.
He surely produced way below expectations and surely has to improve, but in the end of the day, the Kings need to provide him also with the chance to show, what they'd expect out of him.
Actually, the Kings shouldn't have kept Blake as a GM and would be probably in a better position, if they replaced him. But the discussion about Blake is a very different one...</div></div>
By zodiak sign exactly ;)
Blake is the wrong guy to make the PLD call. I personally don’t like holding PLD long term and this summer is the only chance at the 1/3 buyout. So it’s a unique short timeline issue.
But assuming a new GM would also hold, I think you’re right that building a real like around him and calling it L2 internally would make a big difference for PLD.
But again, cancer, he should have been able to work hard regardless of his minutes and role. He’s not that guy. I’d rather buyout than hold given the 1/3 cost. And more than both I’d rather do a deal like this one and just make the salary retention the cost.
I tried to design it so they won the Spence for cheap young depth side of the deal, which I think they did. And then threw in PLD and retained for Anderson part.

It’s a MTL deal or a buyout so I guess you’re saying LA chooses buyout! I totally agree. But this is the type of deal I could see working for both sides.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Borocop</b></div><div>It would make way more sense without retention IMO. The incentive for them to trade Dubois would be to rid themselves of his 8.5M$ cap hit, but in this case theyre only saving 1M with you sending Anderson back, and are getting significantly worse</div></div>
I think LA’s motivations extend beyond year 1 cap.
Only motivation for MTL is to rid one of Anderson or Gallagher in the deal. And they won’t bring in PLD at a cap hit above Suzuki for everyone’s sake.
So a big part of the motivation for LA is avoiding the long term cap hit, however minimal those will be, in exchange for getting something for PLD.
To be honest, if Spence is outpriced, I wouldn’t mind the idea of trading all those assets they gave up for PLD for Struble a great young G and a cheap RHS #6Dman. They slot really well

I’m not sure the fall off all that big actually. Especially if you want a winger. The only RHS D I would love for OTT is Levshunov.
But at 14 I like Eiserman Catton (if he falls) Senecke and Yakemchuk. So there is lots to like around the amount as Dickinson

Adding Mang cheap D and a pick for the first
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Fitzy has every right to be upset. But NJD will worry about their own.
Aren’t CGY fans upset at Conroy? He could have had a top young prospect in the fold. Asked Markstrom to waive, even to announce the trade to locker room. But he tried to press for more and backfired. Within days, Markstrom was calling him out publicly. Now, even the most friendly beat reporters are calling for “splitsville”…and Conroy has zero leverage to make any deals. He will be lucky to get 50 cents on the dollar. Where is outrage, CGY fans?</div></div>
The outrage is there. Now bordering apathy. But it’s with ownership. The rumour feels very legit that ownership vetoed the trade blaming the salary retention as requiring more return.

That was my thinking.</div></div>
We don’t have a lot of single pieces besides picks but maybe a 26 second or something where the Flames get some time value of draft capital and NJ gets an asset easy to flip at future trade deadlines.

Yeah I’d look anywhere for tending (Gustavsson) first but a two year bet on a goalie this good. I dunno. It’s the kind of deal GMs do make.

Can’t say with certainty that Iggy and Catton are both top ten. Too even a shelf all the way to like 14. Senecke my favourite of that group. His balance and shiftiness post growth spurt. RHS. And high danger scoring plays are amazing.

Demidov or Levshunov
Oh and also, that TB pick is just close enough to some super intriguing middle six right wingers. Nygard. Senecke. Parascek. Greentree. It doesn’t move you off Demidov in particular but if you leave this first round with winger winger you’ve got to be a little disappointed!

I just get to thinking about how good that D core is, which is the biggest key to playoff success besides top 2 centres, and I just risk finding the best winger complements for Bedard.
On the flip side, you develop Demidov perfectly, you just might not get a strong enough D corps, and you’re paying Demidov up the wazzoooo in your contender window. He’s going to put up insane points at his peak if he’s playing with Bedard.

Demidov or Levshunov
I’m a ***little*** worried the Hawks are building too small to win the Cup but that doesn’t stop me from loving Demidov’s game and fit.
Bedard being small is irrelevant. Hes the person being matched up against. And a big opposing centre or small, that centre is scared. It’s moreso that Moore is clearly a small style centre and none of Reichel Kurashev and Nazar are physically intimidating (but Nazar looks built for playoff success so he’s not the issue for sure)
You add Demidov to that group and you start to look and feel like a team that doesn’t scare you physically in a seven game series. It’s definitely a factor. But it’s moreso a factor in, once you draft Demidov and lock in Nazar, you are reallly careful about the physical nature and willpower of the rest of your top 9.

The players at 11 seem a lot more interesting to me this year than But and the players drafted right after him. Anyways it feels like an overpay but I’m happy to be wrong!

They’ve got cap space but are probably staying away from the expensive UFAs, so absorbing Markstrom’s contract for two years is a good from a term perspective. I just don’t think they want to block Levi.

Leafs are moving back 17 spots in 2024 for another 2nd and a winger with a very competitive salary after retention. I'd do that if I was the Leafs and had interest in Mangiapane.</div></div>
I could see a deal around Mang half retained and maybe some defensive depth for pick swaps. We know Tree is willing to move down if the math says he is adding pick equity value.
The two seconds for the late first is probably net positive (I haven’t looked at that pick equity chart in awhile!)
So Mang is essentially free in that deal. From Calgary’s perspective, I would rather hunt down players we really like in the late first than gamble on the second rounders but that’s moreso personal preference.

Too creative to happen, plus the NMC, but I would say LA got two first rounders worth of better team structure here. A lot of it is one year in duration though.

SJS blockbuster to setup big UFA offseason

There is a big point - the point is specifically to build a three / four year window of success. Right in Larkin and Debrincat’s prime years and right as Raymond and Seider ascend.
Even with cap increases you look for an edge with every dollar. All this depends on the asks by the players of course. I foresee Yz going to a very useful tool that’s only in his toolkit. The bridge to UFA deal.
