Interesting that they still have a lot of cap space after this deal. Maybe pay less and don’t retain on Markstrom. Maybe add Mangiapane or somehow get Coleman into the deal.

If you don’t like Markstrom I get the hate! Can you imagine doing this deal without the Van first and trade back (early second) at the deadline?!

I prefer Gustavsson over Markstrom, personally. I imagine NJ could have him and another assets straight up for 10th.

So there is no reason the trade price would go up. It would certainly be less now.

So at a very minimum, remove the two 1st round picks.

The price didn't magically go way down. This isn't even in the same ballpark as Holtz/Mercer + Devils 2024 1st + some little minor league defenseman.
