Those are definitely good points and that may not be enough for Reinhart to sign, but the Devils really need someone who can ride with Jack consistently and maximize his abilities. Maybe you don't need it with Jesper on his wing and if Holtz can take a big step forward. I love Mercer, he's like a dog on a bone but truthfully he's not a play driver and ultimately may be better suited on the 3rd line with top 6 spot duty.
I also think the Devs could learn a little from Vegas and take risks to win it all. If you need to trade someone then you do, I have no idea if Holtz is going to pan out and doesn't seem like management wants to give him the same benefit of the doubt they give to Hughes and Nemec to be the player he can be.

I hope we have a long playoff run (not counting chickens) for Woody and Sevs sake. They have been here for bunch of bad years. That said I see Woody in Buffalo and Sevs in Buf, Ott, Van (less likely), so not too long before playing meaningful hockey.
I don't see them signing MW for anything but a hometown discount</div></div>
I agree with this on Wood. I cannot see them re-signing him unless its on a discount. I love what Wood brings to the table when he is on his game, but he has been outright bad the past month. There are only so many CAP dollars to spend a $3m plus for Wood makes no sense. I wish they could bring Sevs back even if Nemec is on the way, there is no guarantee he will be anything more than a 3rd pair guy next year and we can all see how valuable Sevs has been with Marino out. I know it would be a luxury but between Hamilton, Marino, and Sevs its nice to be that deep on the right side. For tis year, I still think the Devs need to pick up a depth dman for the playoffs. I have no faith in Smith, Bahl, or Oh able to reliably play down the stretch without some insurance.

Bernier on LTIR and fixing a few small problems
I always liked ZAR as a fellow Huskies Alumni, but I don't see the need when you have Zetterlund who showed very well in his limited call up last year and we still have Bastian. I also really do not see the value in Rodriguez, especially as a center. I can see them both being invited on a PTO if we want some serious competition in camp. I just really don't see those two being signed by NJ.

2023-24 All UFA Addition Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>So what happens with Bratt, Sharangovich, Severson?</div></div>
Good question, I will have to edit to consider that. In all likelihood let's posit Severson walks as a UFA after TF tries to sign him and didn't trade him at the deadline. Since I am making this a UFA thing, the easiest thing to do would to be trade Bratt and Shanrangovich for picks or future assets even if that may not be quite realistic.
Please add your thoughts on what happens to them. I just thought I would have some semi-realistic fun with free agency next Summer.

Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aussie_Blackhawk</b></div><div>Yes I think we know any Kane deal would have to include a teams 23' 1st unless an absolute top prospect is included (unlikely)
Regula is also highly thought of amongst management and a likely component of our teams defensive corps this year. He looked good in a small sample at the back end of last season, under Richardson we hope to see further improvement. I wouldn't be prepared to include him so nonchalantly in a package that we are selling.</div></div>
I was bored and just having fun but I needed to start the thread somewhere. If NJ is giving up a 2023 1st rd pick which would have to be lottery protected and with salary retained from Chicago, what are you thinking it would take? What else would CHI give up prospect wise? Unless Kane signed an extension (which I doubt he would do), the leverage isn't as high. If Kane is a pure rental then this deal never even sees the light of day unless NJ gives less. Plus it doesn't happen until the trad deadline most likely as a rental. Kane as rental makes no sense for NJ unless they were on the cusp of a cup.

Cheers,
Nick</div></div>
I don't know if NJ needs to add a bit more, but I would suspect different pieces and maybe a bit more. I would think TOR would want better cost controlled prospects in addition to Severson especially if he isn't extended past this season.
I am a Devils fan and even I think it would probably me something more like this:
From Devils:
- Severson
- Nolan Foote
- Thompson
- 2023 1st rd pick (top 5 protected)
From TOR:
- Nylander
- Holl

It gets Arizona to the CAP floor ($3.4m) with a low salary of just $750k on the last year of his deal. The teams help each other out for a not great draft pick. It's even less then the Devils paid for Johnsson. I wouldn't be surprised if Johnsson was moved for less or not moved until the trade deadline.

I don't disagree. Just a starting point for the season. Amongst Huala, Boquist, and McLeod, Huala will probably be the only one on the roster every game and not scratched, I wouldn't be surprised if Huala started out as 3C and played on the 4th line or even in the top 6 in spot duty. I could see lots of different possibilities over the course of the season. I am sure Huala will also be out there for key faceoffs at the end of games, PP, or PK.
The bottom-6 could look like this even:
Tatar - Huala - Holtz
Wood - McLeod - Bastain/Zett

NJ declines, if your trading Severson to Toronto Nylander has to be coming back as part of a larger package in my opinion. Plus, the Devs probably have to take a contract back, based on everything in the news I would guess that is Holl
TOR GETS:
- Severson
- Foote (Prospect has to go but def not Holtz)
- 2023 3rd Rd Pick
NJ GETS:
- Nylander
- Holl

I don't think they trade Tatar after drafting Nemec this year. Odds are Nemec doesn't make the NHL roster, but if he did I would not be surprised if he lived with Tatar to start the season. Similar to how Jack lived with Corey his rookie season.

It remains to be seen, but after last season Zacha may just be better on the wing.
Ho-Sang and Galy are on other team PTOs but may not be signed by those teams. Depending on how they show at those camps, they could be good candidates. On short term deals if they were available it would not be a bad thing. At least they cannot be any worse then the PTOs the Devils gave to Vesey, etc. Plus those two have way more upside. I do not see the harm at all in these two possibly being signed for a year.

I still am not sure Boqvist can hold down the 3rd line center position this year (or ever yet) and we will need to add another veteran bottom 6 C/W. I am def excited about the re-vamped D corp, but I would not be against or surprised if they sign another D-man that fits in that 6 or 7 spot sharing time with Siegenthaler.
Otherwise, I am def excited for this season!

What do you think it takes to move Tarasenko? A player who does not want to be there and a GM who has reduced his value a ton? The assets STL can get for Tarasenko or sinking fast. If I were to change the terms of the trade after looking at STL depth chart I think a trade might look like this:
STL gets:
- Reilly Walsh (RD)
- 2022 NJD 3rd Round Pick
NJ gets:
- Tarasenko (no salary retention)

Also, not sure Phil the Thrill fits in Ruff's system either besides his bad habits. Unless they make a trade for Tarasenko, they may be better off picking up some veteran leadership or bottom 6 fwd. Perhaps Dominic Kahun.
