Having many defensemen that can play both sides is a great idea. Having a defensive top two RD that clears the puck out of the zone is better. What is Kevym Adams doing besides nothing to acquire that defenseman?

Byrum was acquired from the Avalanche with the intention of filling the need on RD. If he is not the answer to RD, then the Sabres need to make additional moves.

The Sabres pass. They need an RD2 at least, not lose an LD1/LD1A.

The Sabres should have additional moves planned. If Bynum was acquired for left defense depth, more moves are needed for a 2CA or 3C to be Mittelstadt's replacement and either a RD1 or RD2.

Raty is a B prospect, and Pod is of no interest, they don't need a guy who's been demoted to the AHL and has 1 year left of waivers. Not happening.
Better come up with a better package than that because they won't be moving him for that.</div></div>
If the Canucks do not have what the Penguins need for Guentzel, then Guentzel does not move to Vancouver.

Would you agree Kevyn Adams not having a plan to address the specific position after trading Mittelstadt would be a failing grade for a key performance indicator?

The Rangers need to do better in sending a quality return to the Penguins. The Penguins need scoring. The Rangers do not provide that.

Also Byram hasnt been good for 2 years, llkely a result of injuries that have slowed development. There's no guarantee that suddenly changes on the Sabres.</div></div>

If Byrum is not intended to play right defense for the Sabres, then he is going to fill a need on left defense. His acquisition could allow for the upcoming trade of Erik Johnson.

The Sabres are deep at center. Money needs to be spend for positions of need. Moving Mittelstadt and acquiring Byrum allows the needed flexibility.

(COL/BUF) - Byram for Mittelstadt
I think the trade is fair. Both Byrum and Mittelstadt fill needs for their new teams and have histories of injuries.
Mittelstadt, previously the 3C with the Sabres, had been leading the team in goals scored. The Sabres are deep in scoring centers. Mittelstadt is the player who had to move. The Avalanche have an opportunity to see Mittelstadt develop as a 2C.
Byrum, possibly in need of a change in scenery, should address the Sabres' need for a defensive, puck clearing top two pairing right defenseman. The Sabres' inability to clear the puck out of the defense zone has led to many goals against and losses. The 5-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, 3 March, is a recent example of the Sabres' ineffective defense. Byrum will be expected to improve the Sabres' defense.

2023 - 2024: Peyton Krebs (C/LW) as 3C
The departure of Casey Mittelstadt to the Colorado Avalanche creates a void at 3C. Peyton Krebs (C/LW) could be Mittelstadt's replacement.
Could Peyton Krebs be an effective third line center?

2023 - 2024: Bowen Byrum (LD/RD)
The Buffalo Sabres traded C Casey Mittelstadt, a pending restricted free agent, for LD/RD Bowen Byrum.
A priority for the Sabres is acquiring a defensive top right defenseman who clears the puck out of the zone. Not clearing the puck out of the zone has been an issue for the Sabres for many seasons.
Does Bowen Byrum address the Sabres' need for a defensive top right defenseman?

Mittelstadt to the Penguins would be a great idea. The Penguins need a 2C as Malkin transitions to a 2CA/3C on a third line.

The Penguins would have interest in Necas. Necas is younger than Guentzel, scores goals, assists in goals scored, and is a top forward the Penguins need.
