2022 Offseason
If the Devils took this deal knowing them could also flip Petterson for a 2nd, getting two 2nds for what started as Zacha would be more than good with me.

Gibson to Pittsburgh
I guess it's sorta like the uncertainty of what Pittsburgh do after Jarry/DeSmith vs. the certainty of Gibson being solid but likely underwhelming
Maybe a contending and defensively solid team can revitalize his currently kinda stagnating career right now? Seems definitely possible. Idk.
I'd say worth a chance- could turn out nicely

Murray to Edmonton
I’d pass on that oilers trade. In my opinion Murray is a bit of a long shot to actually take over the starters role. Think people seem to forget kosk was actually pretty darn solid all year. I’d rather just sign a cheap back up lots available and not tamper with defensive depth. Another issue I question people don’t consider enough when moving larsson is that leaves the right side with Bear only entering second season after being a huge surprise this year. Benning who is a fantastic 3rd pairing d but it’s debatable if can play top four full time. Bouch has no nhl experience. Moving larsson will require replacing which is much easier said than done.

Avs decline, they have 0 interest in an aging player with a contract that is too long throughout his decline years
Hörnqvist would not be a fit in Colorado either.

2019 Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FLPensFan</b></div><div>How does Detroit plan on getting younger on defense? Kronwall, Daley, Ericsson, DeKeyser, and Green. Other than Bowey and Cholowski, you don't have much youth on the blue line, and you have an abundance of good young forwards in Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen, Zadina, Svechnikov, and Athanasiou. Detroit is likely going to have to use one of those guys to improve the blue line. The team has already had issues signing AA once, so, seems like he would be the most likely to be moved.</div></div>
First with the exception of Bowey the rest of our D have been with Detroit before they started to rebuild. If you look at Detroit's home page on CapFriendly.com you'll see the only D on contract past next season is DeKeyser. Kronwall may come back to reach 1000 games. Detroit will let him come back because has been a big part of the team for 15 seasons.
It has taken longer than Detroit wanted. The last couple of TDLs Green gave 2 teams he would go to and I don't know if the teams didn't want him or didn't want to pay Hollands asking price. You're a Pittsburgh fan right? Would you have wanted Pittsburgh to pick him up at the TDL? Since Daley is better than Ericsson you can see why it has taken long time.
Besides Cholowski and Bowey the Wings have Hronek, Hicketts, and Sulak who all saw playing time last season. The Wings signed Kaski at the World Championships and Lindstrom who been getting all types of praise after a good season in Sweden. The last 2 I have no idea how ready they are and will have to wait for camp to see. The rest in order talent go: Hronek, Cholowski, Bowey, Hicketts, Sulak. I know Detroit will probably need to trade for a veteran defenseman. But it will most likely be for a top pair defenseman. In all honestly it will probably be Trouba and hope Detroit doesn't give up to much to get him. But Yzerman told Cheveldayoff the big 3 (Larkin, AA Mantha) were off limits when discussing Trouba. In trading it will most likely be Svechnikov or Rasmussen and probably Bowey. Bertuzzi is too valuable because there aren't too many players like him a grinder/energy player with soft hands and a scoring touch near the net.
AA and Blashill didn’t get along at the end of last season. But AA spent the offseason working on his defense and came in to camp committed to playing both sides of the puck and his ice time increased. Then Blashill started to let him play some center (AA prefers to play center) and not just wing. When Larkin got hurt Blashill looked too AA to take over for him and then at the end of this season Blashill told the media AA is his #2 center moving forward.
Now AA had 30 goals 24 assists for 54 points in 76 games. I'm sorry but In my opinion moving up a half round and Maatta aren't close to AA's value. Maatta is a second pair defenseman and I already mentioned injuries. Now I noticed he was a healthy scratch quite a bit and I don't know why.

Phil Flying High in COL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FLPensFan</b></div><div>I'm a Penguins fan, so I am probably a bit biased this way, but I've actually wondered about a similar deal being made. I was looking at Kerfoot or Compher coming back the other way at forward. With Cale Makar coming on, there has been some talk that Colorado may look to move Barrie. If Schultz was able to resign in the 4.5-5.5M range for 3 years (I don't think he has done enough to warrant an increase in $$), does that change your mind at all? Gives Makar a full year to play 3rd pairing, and then swap him and Schultz. Barrie is going to cost more than 5.5M after this year, which Colorado may not want to pay with Makar in the wings and Johnson still pulling down 6M.</div></div>
They are keeping Barrie, Since he has came into the league he has been something like 8th in Defensive scoring, guys like that dont grow on trees. The depth is great but Johnson isn't a top 4Dman for much longer, he was suited for a lesser work load with Cole on the "3rd pair" in the playoffs. Makar and Girard pair are going to be the top pair next year, they are unreal together.
Kessel is great but Barrie puts up 60 points as a Dman and Kerfoot Compher etc are 30-45 point guys. Schultz doesnt interest the Avs at all bc of his injury issues and is still a 1 year rental. Avs scoring goes down in that sort of trade and lose big cogs in the roster.
Dont think its a good trade, its 1 step forward 2 steps back with that sort of framework for Kessel

2019-2020 Cap Issues
There's definitely going to be a cap casualty. Pearson, Maatta, and Johnson seem like the most likely candidates. Sadly, I don't think it'll be Johnson.

W/ Brassard 2018-2019
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FLPensFan</b></div><div>Couple of things here.
1. You are over the cap so.....this won't work...however.....
2. Zero chance Cole resigns here for 2.5M. He's won 2 Cups. While coaching staff here may not like him, someone else will pay him 3.5-4M on the open market. Remove Cole, as he almost assuredly won't be here next year.
3. I think the Rust and Hornqvist contracts are fair. The biggest issue with Hornqvist will be how many years, but you don't need to worry about that in this scenario.
4. Sprong doesn't need an almost 300K raise. He has done nothing at the NHL level yet. He'd get a minimum 10% qualifying raise, putting him at about 770K
5. Simon is in a similar boat. While he performed better, Simon is probably more in line to get 700-800K and a 1-way only contract (similar to what Kuhnhackl and Rust got a few years ago).
6. I'd move on from Kuhnhackl. They have a few options like Blueger, DiPauli, and Johnson....or Simon, that could play for a little less.
7. Sheahan likely gets close to 3M if not a little over. He's back on pace similar to a few years ago with Detroit. He shouldn't be taking less with his improved play.
8. Jarry also in similar boat to Simon. No need to give him 1.5M after a dozen or so good games. Give him a 1-way contract for 800K. Getting a 1-way deal is a big step for a young guy. They often have to give up some salary to get it if they aren't a top 6 type performer.
Give more to Sheahan, drop Cole, drop Kuhnhackl, a little less money to Sprong, Jarry, and Simon, and I think you MIGHT be able to fit it under</div></div>
I agree with most of this, although I think Kuhnhackl has some of the most untapped potential among any players on the squad right now. He does everything the right way, and maybe if JR can get him around $800K he would be a tremendous signing. The main point is that it will be tight tight tight going into next year. Playoff performers could jack their value up as well.
