Gibson to Pittsburgh

Description
I'm curious as to what Anaheim fans would think of the Gibson deal I have listed here. Pittsburgh has long wanted to bring one of the Pittsburgh natives (Saad and Gibson mainly) to the Penguins, and now Pittsburgh may want to solidify their goaltending. Pittsburgh is also looking to add some skilled size up front. Guentzel is a good goal scoring forward, but Pittsburgh is going to have to give up a decent forward to change their roster makeup. I think Guentzel may be a bit "old" if Anaheim is going to go full rebuild, but, Anaheim could flip Guentzel to another team and should be able to get a good return, such as a 1st, high prospect, and roster player (or bring in a 3rd team to get those resources for Guentzel in the Gibson trade). Marino would add another solid RH d-man behind Drysdale. Penguins would have to take on Kesler's dead contract to help even out the cap hit. Fair deal, or too one-sided in either direction?

Interesting proposal but I think Comtois is the deal breaker. I don't see Ducks dealing him.

Coleman gets 4 x $4,000,000 And Anaheim says Hell No on the Gibson trade.

With Comtois leading ANA in scoring this year and outscoring Couture, Kreider, etc. he could go to arbitration and get about 5M$ pretty easily

Reinhart, Labanc, Bura, RStrome, etc. as precedent

An arbitrator would or did give them all similar $

Take out Comtois and Jarry and, since you don't have a 2021 first, add Legare and your 2022 first. Understand that we'd probably prefer you to say No, thanks. We actually think that we'll be contenders again before Gibson's six years are up.

Double the Coleman salary. And Seattle isn’t taking Zucker.

I can respect someone saying no, that you may be contenders again before Gibson's deal is up, and that fact that it is unlikely Anaheim would deal Comtois, BUT...saying Guentzel, Marino, Legare, and a 2022 1st for Gibson is absolutely ridiculous. Gibson is good, and wouldn't be cheap to acquire, but, he's not going to pull in 4 premium assets either.

I guess it's sorta like the uncertainty of what Pittsburgh do after Jarry/DeSmith vs. the certainty of Gibson being solid but likely underwhelming

Maybe a contending and defensively solid team can revitalize his currently kinda stagnating career right now? Seems definitely possible. Idk.

I'd say worth a chance- could turn out nicely

It's funny. There were a lot of Pittsburgh fans angry with 6 years at 3.5M AAV for Tanev when we signed him. I can see that a bit without knowing the player. After coming here and playing for 2 years, he's worth every penny. Just because Pittsburgh is using him on the 4th doesn't mean he is a 4th liner. He probably should be getting at least 3rd line minutes, and I wouldn't even be opposed to him playing with Crosby to open up some space for him, kind of like Kunitz did several years ago.

Pittsburgh better protect him. After trading Hornqvist, Tanev is kind of the heart and soul of the team. Gives 110% every night.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think Semyon Varlamov would cost? Only two premium assets?

People consistently fail to understand what premium goaltenders are worth because they're never traded -- precisely because they're too expensive.

Varlamov is tough, because he's 6 years older than Gibson, and signed for 4 less years. On the plus side, he's got better playoff numbers, and his deal is cheaper than Gibson. If Varlamov was a UFA this summer, he'd probably be able to ask for 7-8M AAV easy.

If I was Pittsburgh making an offer for Varlamov, probably Legare, the 2022 1st, and a younger, lesser player with upside like Jared McCann. And I fully believe that is likely not enough to get it done, either. If Pittsburgh had a better prospect pool, I'd expect they would need to offer a better prospect.
