So gardiner makes a little less but hasn’t been productive I would guess will also cost as much (well a little less since the canes first has less value than the jackets). Teams with cap space hold all the leverage right now. Right now cap dumps are perhaps the most expensive they have ever been</div></div>
You make an extremely valid point, that could be why we don't see Gardiner get moved this off-season, signs point to him being on the roster this year, or at least competing in camp for a spot.

Interesting line choices. Don't see Necas playing in the top 6 as they will probably want to put KK with two experienced players in Patches and Turbo to give KK the best chance of succeeding, but I don't hate the idea. If the team is struggling to score over the course of a few games wouldn't mind seeing Rod throw Necas into the top 6 for a spark.

I think this is a steep asking price for a guy with only 1 year left on their deal. I think Arizona would just be willing to take those 2 draft picks. Not too mention if Gardiner comes in and plays well they could trade him at the deadline in a retained salary deal (probably like 50%) for more draft picks, and if he sucks whatever his contract expires at the end of the year.

Canes dump Gardiners salary to add some depth
Don't get me wrong I agree with what you are saying I just don't know if it's worth 4 million given his defensive flaws, I assume Gardiner will be on the roster this upcoming year so I hope he proves me wrong but I guess we'll find out and see but right now I'm skeptical.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>The Nino hole was filled by Kase. We have that replacement already. Same player, same style, much cheaper and younger, with more upside. Injury concerns, but there is the Nino replacement.
Gardiner making 4 mil isn't a bad thing if he's worth it. Give him a chance to play up to his deal on the third pairing. You're not going to find a better D man to slot onto that third pairing right now in free agency.
You play Drury LW and Necas down the middle. You don't sign the extra pointless free agent like Stastny and Milano.
If you want 4th line goalscoring, you use rookies, not veterans. The entire point of a 4th line is to eat time without giving up anything so the big 3 lines can rest and get back up to speed. Scoring from the 4th line is very rare, and if you can find a studded scoring 4th line, they're likely winning the cup. There's no need to invest heavily there.</div></div>
Ah I see, I wasn't aware that Drury could play the LW I thought he was just a Centre, in that case the Milano signing is indeed pointless, that one was on me, however I don't think Gardiner is worth paying 4 mil, especially on the 3rd pair, we can do better. I still think Statsny on the 3rd line for a year is fine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Chatfield isn't playing over Coghlan. What is the point in Stasny and Milano? Drury is going to make the dump to the NHL this year. DDK is worse than Jake, and it won't cost that much to move Gardiner. This is rough.</div></div>
We'll see who is the 3rd pair RHD whether it's Chatfield or Coghlan I'm fine with either one. Statsny is brought in on a one year deal to help fill the void of Nino as veteran 3rd line goal scorer as his production was similar to Nino's last year and even if DDK is worse than Gardiner it's still not ideal to have a 3rd pair defenseman making 4 million not too mention Gardiner hasn't played in a while, maybe DDK isn't the right option but there are better options than Gardiner out there for cheaper I agree with Drury being ready for the NHL but where does Necas play? I think he should get a shot early in the year at Centre and if he plays well you roll with it. Perhaps the Milano signing is unnecessary as Martinook is fine at the 4th line and be does give full energy every game but Milano is a better goal scorer and we lacked scoring last year and it showed in the playoffs. That's just me though.

Canes get JT Miller at deadline
It would be great to not have to give up a 1st for Miller but I feel like we might if a deal had to get done especially with Vancouver retaining salary.
I think we need to start being more aggressive at the trade deadline, the past two years all we have done is trade for Jani Hakanpaa and Max Domi and I feel like it's costed us, while I like what those players brought and no denying that Domi saved our ass in game 7 vs the Bruins but they weren't legit contributors to our runs, we need to grab a guy who can take us over the top instead of trading for 4th liners and 3rd pairing defenseman. Not saying it specifically has to be Miller and if we can find a way to not cough up a 1st that would be great, but I think Waddell needs to start being more aggressive at the deadline. That's just my opinion though.

Yeah rentals can be risky, so I understand why Carolina doesn't do them, however with the Canes still having their 2024 and 2025 first round picks and being one of the best drafting and developing organizations over the past few years especially past the 1st round sacrificing a little of the future for a " win now" could be a risk that's worth to take.

Understandable, out of curiosity, do you think the Canucks could get a better package at the deadline or do you think the front office can re-sign him because it would be very risky to let him hit free agency.
